The default update channel for Microsoft 365 Apps for enterprise and Microsoft 365 Apps for business is Current Channel. This channel is also the default for the subscription versions of the Project and Visio desktop apps.

Go to office.com/setup and sign in with an existing or new Microsoft account and then enter your product key to redeem it*. Redeeming your key is what adds your Microsoft account to Microsoft 365 and you only have to do this once. If you're renewing a Microsoft 365 subscription with a new product key, use the same Microsoft account you previously associated with your expired version subscription.

To change from a 32-bit version to a 64-bit version or vice versa, you need to uninstall Microsoft 365 first (including any stand-alone Microsoft 365 apps you have such as Project of Visio). Once the uninstall is complete, sign in again to www.office.com and select Other install options, choose the language and version you want (64 or 32-bit), and then select Install. (See Install Visio or Install Project if you need to reinstall those stand-alone apps.)

For an Office for home product, go to office.com/setup and create a new Microsoft account or sign in with an existing one, then follow the remaining steps on that page such as entering your product key (if you have one). Your account is successfully associated with Microsoft 365 or Office when you see the page, My Office Account followed by your Microsoft account email address, and a button to install the apps. Select the PC or Mac tabs above to help you with the rest of the install process.

If you're trying to sign in with your work or school account to www.office.com and your sign in is blocked, it likely means your Microsoft 365 administrator set up a security policy that's preventing you from signing in to that location.

Not all versions of Microsoft 365 include a key, but if yours did, you need to redeem it before you can install Microsoft 365. Go to office.com/setup and sign in with an existing Microsoft account or create a new one, then enter your product key. Follow the remaining prompts to finish linking your Microsoft account with this version of Microsoft 365.

If you bought a stand-alone version of an Office app, for example Visio or Word, in most cases you install this app in the same way you install the Microsoft 365 or Office suite, by signing in to www.office.com with your Microsoft account, or work or school account and selecting Install for your stand-alone product.

Teams profile. Your Teams profile includes information you provided when you set up a Microsoft account. To enable other people to find you on Teams (or products that interact with Teams for personal use, including Teams for enterprise) your display name and picture are visible to other users on Teams that have your contact information. Your Teams profile may be visible to Enterprise customers and their end users when you engage with an end user of an organization in chats and meetings.

Cortana is your personal productivity assistant in Microsoft 365. As a digital assistant, Cortana is designed to help you achieve more with less effort so you can focus on what matters and can answer a wide range of questions about things such as weather, sports, stocks, and general information. When you ask questions, the data Cortana collects depends on whether you are using the consumer or enterprise version.

This section applies to the consumer version of Cortana experiences in Windows 10 and Windows 11. Find my device. The Find my device feature allows an administrator of a Windows device to find the location of that device from account.microsoft.com/devices. To enable Find my device, an administrator needs to be signed in with a Microsoft account and have the location setting enabled. This feature will work even if other users have denied access to location for all their apps. When the administrator attempts to locate the device, users will see a notification in the notification area. Learn more about Find my device in Windows.

Office 365 access control will work with all existing Office 365 App-IDs (shown below). It does not replace these App-IDs, but augments their capabilities to identify not just the type of access (enterprise vs consumer) but also identify a specific enterprise account login instance.

Once created, this App-ID can then be used in policies with existing Office 365 App-IDs, limit access to only sanctioned Office 365 enterprise accounts while blocking access to unsanctioned Office 365 enterprise accounts and Office 365 consumer accounts.
