Acid dyes are water soluble anionic dyes that are applied to fibres such as silk, wool, nylon and modified acrylic fibres.
Reactive dyes are a class of highly coloured organic substances, primarily used for dyeing cellulose fibres, these dyes are the most permanent of all dye types.
Direct dyes are another class of dyes, one of the two types of dyes that are mixed in 'all purpose' Rit dyes. They are used on cellulose fibres such as cotton, hemp, rayon, and linen. The colours of direct dyes are duller than those provided by fibre reactive dyes, but one advantage is that direct dyes may be more resistant to fading in the light, than fibre reactive dyes. All direct dyes perform rather poorly with respect to washfastness, a product called Retayne, which is an ionic bulking agent which essentially "glues" the dye into the fibre, works very well to make fabric dyed with direct dyes washable without bleeding of the dye.
Solvent dyes are used to colour organic solvents, hydrocarbon fuels, waxes, lubricants, plastics, & other hydrocarbon-based nonpolar materials but they are insoluble in water.
Available colours are-
orange, red, green, yellow, and blue.

7. Solvent dyes for leather- spray finishing of dyed and undyed leather
Basic dyes are used for dyeing wool and silk from dye bath where brightness is the key factor. They also work in cotton but with the introduction of other types of dyes specially made for dying cotton fibres the use of basic dyes on cotton has slowed.
