A rock band has lodged a police complaint in Bengaluru after their members were allegedly attacked for not performing Kannada songs at an event. Mahadevapura police said a case had been filed and investigation was underway.

Clarifying that the band had already performed a Kannada song midway through the gig, members of Musication said they chose not to play another Kannada song as there was more demand for Hindi songs from the audience.

Mass singing of three popular Kannada songs was organised on Thursday by the State Government in the run-up to Kannada Rajyotsava on November 1. About 18 lakh people participated in them across Karnataka.

On the footsteps of the Vidhana Soudha, government employees of all cadre gathered to sing the chosen songs, while similar events were held in other cities and towns. In Bengaluru, mass singing events were held in front of Ravindra Kalakshetra and the BBMP office.

The campaign--"Matadu Matadu Kannada"-- which translates to "Talk Talk Kannada", will see more than a lakh people across Karnataka singing Kannada songs on October 28. This will include IAS, IPS and UPSC officials who will sing along with others during the campaign.
