Kanji Scanner is an Android application developed by TXE Systems.
This Privacy Policy explains how information is handled when you use the Kanji Scanner app.
By using the app, you agree to the practices described in this Privacy Policy.
Information Collection and Use
2.1 Personal Data
Kanji Scanner does not require user accounts and does not collect personal information such as name, email address, or phone number.
2.2 Camera Usage
The app uses the device camera exclusively to:
• recognize Japanese kanji characters using on-device OCR (Google ML Kit)
Camera images are not stored, saved, or transmitted to any server.
All image processing happens locally on the device.
Locally Stored Data
The app stores the following data locally on your device only:
• downloaded Jōyō Kanji data
• kanji marked as “learned” by the user
The app also allows users to manually export and import backups of their learned kanji data.
This data:
• is stored locally on the user's device using a Room database
• remains under the user's control
• is not automatically transmitted to TXE Systems or any third party
• can be removed by uninstalling the app
Users are responsible for managing, storing, and sharing any exported backup files.
Third-Party Services
The app uses the following third-party services:
• Google ML Kit (OCR) – on-device text recognition
• Google Custom Tabs – to open external web content and search results
When a user chooses to open an external search, information may be processed by the respective third-party service according to its own privacy policy.
Each service operates under its own privacy policies.
Data Sharing
Kanji Scanner does not sell, collect, or share personal data.
Data Security
Reasonable efforts are made to protect data stored locally on the device.
However, users are responsible for the security of any backup files they export from the app.
Children’s Privacy
Kanji Scanner does not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 years of age.
The app does not require user accounts and does not collect personal information such as names, email addresses, phone numbers, or similar identifiers.
If you believe that a child has provided personal information through the app, please contact us so that appropriate action can be taken.
