Kamitsuma Oku Karate Kai Japan Sri Lanka Branch was established in 2008 by Shihan L.P. Edirisinghe (International Black Belt 7th Dan) under the patronage of Shihan Yusuke Kamitsuma, Honory President of the Global Martial Arts Federation and founder of Kamitsuma Oku Karate Kai Japan.
Our Style is the traditional Wado-Ryu karate style founded by Hironori Ōtsuka in 1939. Wado-Ryu is a blend of Shotokan karate and Jūjutsu. The fundamental idea of Wadō-ryū is tai sabaki, which is sometimes misinterpreted as "evasion." Translated as "body-management," the Japanese term describes the use of body manipulation to shift both the attacker and the defender out of harm's way. To do this, one must "move along" as opposed to "move against," or choose harmony above brute force. Wadō-ryū is gradually moving away from its historical roots and toward a new, general karate that better suits the needs of contestants and spectators in modern karate competitions.
