On 31 March 2026, about 500 community members, collaborators, local dignitaries, and researchers gathered in Sarkin Dawa to mark the end of the Kam Documentation Project — a decade-long effort to understand and record the Kam language and to leave a living archive of Kam culture for future generations.
The event brought together people who had contributed to the project in many different ways: as language consultants, videographers, translators, and community facilitators. It was an opportunity to share what had been accomplished, to watch recordings made in the community, and to celebrate the 14 people formally trained in language documentation over the course of the project.
