One of the most popular gifts is a simple handprint flower. This one my four year old wanted to do, so I put paint on both his hands and each print was a flower. For the grass he used his fingers. The rest was added with a paintbrush.
4. Once the paint has dried, cut each handprint out. When cutting between the fingers, be sure to not make them too thin. If too much space is cut between the fingers, the final result will no longer appear like hands.
9. The normal baking time averages around 3 minutes. Some of the handprints took slightly longer than others. An easy way to tell if your handprints are done is when they completely stop moving and have returned to a flat state. Occasionally, the shrinking process may be complete, but the handprint is not flat. A tip that was provided in the original tutorial is to remove the handprint from the oven and immediately press it with a spatula to help flatten it. In the image below, the baking was complete, but the handprint was not flat. The spatula tip solved this problem!
10. Remove the handprints from the oven and allow them to completely cool. You will notice that the plastic is now 9 times thicker and the handprints have shrunken to 1/3 their original size. Add a thin layer of mod podge to the painted areas to help prevent chipping. Set aside to dry.
These turned out adorable. I love that you painted it white, too. We made little handprints with paint on round ornaments a few weeks ago for the grandparents but now I think I may need to make these, too. ? thanks for the tips.
6. Paint a brown center to the flower(s.) I used yellow and brown paint mixed and brushed from the center outward, allowing brush strokes to show. Be sure not to cover too much of the handprints (this is why I recommend leaving an opening in the middle when you create the handprints.)
Bonus tip: Do not forget to sign and date your artwork! This is an important step in any keepsake craft. You do not want to forget those memories with your children, or how old those handprints are. Take lots of pictures too!

Hi. Just reading the comments, so if I am making this for a class party of 24 kids, it will still work for handprinting the following day? And still place them all in ziplocks? Or is there a better way? Thank You!
Every time I work on a handprint post I just about want to cry because my babies are all so big. My oldest started college this year (how??) and my youngest is about to turn ____. All those cliches about the days being long but the years being short are TRUE.
NOTE: if your child has small hands, you can do three rows of handprints for the tree if you wish. If you do this, place the first handprint a little higher up on the towel. You can practice on a sheet of paper first.
When packing for our beach trip, I made sure to toss in a few crafty supplies. One of my plans was to help my son create a handprint crab as a souvenir. Once your masterpiece has cooled, you can now apply a thin layer of Mod Podge to protect and seal the handprint. This will stop the paint from coming off. Try not to coat the punched hole too much as we need to be able to attach the chain to it.

We kept the kids home from school earlier this week due to colds going around. So to make the day a little less of a bummer I told them all to get on their Christmas jammies and go cuddle up on the couch to watch a holiday movie so we could make it a fun Christmassy day. After the movie we decided to finish up these Santa handprint ornaments we had cut out and baked the night before.
Just did these with my 9 month old for her first Christmas. Not easy getting her handprints but they turned out so adorable!! I did have an issue with them taking much longer to harden, I think I might have made them a bit thicker than recommended. But thank you for sharing, this is an awesome craft!
