Hawai'i Admission Day
Statehood Day is a legal holiday that celebrates Hawai’i becoming the 50th state of America.

What is Statehood Day?
Statehood Day or Admissions Day is celebrated annually on the third Friday of August to commemorate Hawai'i's 1959 admission to becoming a state. Since it is a state public holiday, so many schools and state government offices are closed. Some small businesses are closed to accommodate Statehood Day.
How is it celebrated?
In Hawaii, Statehood day is celebrated in many different ways - including hula performances, friends and family gatherings, educational activities that talk about Hawaii’s history, and many more.
Background of Statehood Day
Some historical context about Statehood Day in Hawaii include how a long period of time was spent becoming an independent kingdom, then a republic and territory, and finally becoming a state. During this time period, on August 21, 1959 Hawaii became a state after the majority of the Hawaiian voters and The United States voted in favor of becoming a state.
