The unconscious can reveal much about ourselves through dreams and meditation. Although these concealed thoughts can be seen as surreal and cryptic, it is up to us to delve into our inner psyches and hunt for revelations of our unknowns.
My artwork is a representation of my own unconsciousness. Documenting nightmares to capture reoccurring figures and characters that hunt me through the void. Painting with oils in a rough and painterly style, letting the brush work show in controlled chaos, while adding finer details to pull focus on key areas. Configuring the scenes as they are seen within the dream, keeping their surreal composition.
Eyes are a major focus in my work as it is through my eyes that my subconscious is being displayed. In many cultures eyes are seen as the portal to the soul, and to look into them is to enter and be judged by the soul. It is the eyes of the hunters that track me through my dreams.
Moving through the void,
feeling the damp air stepping into green,
a jungle?
She appears,
following her over and under the verdure,
she is gone but not alone,
a trap?
She returns transformed,
burning amber eyes,
now watching and hunting.
