In fifth grade, a class assignment was to create a New Years resolution. As a 10-year-old, my resolution was to lose weight as I was being bullied for my size. Looking back, my family’s lifestyle has shaped my current values and how I changed not only my life but hope to change students like me. Both of my parents have developed Type 2 diabetes as a result of their diet, which motivated me to change my lifestyle and mindset toward the healthy future I seek. I now have an overwhelming passion for health and fitness which led me to join SUNY Cortland's Women's Club Rugby team my senior year in an effort to enhance my cardiovascular fitness and test my discipline. I am continuously eager to learn new information regarding all aspects of anatomy and physiology in sport such as strength and conditioning along with nutrition. I am currently a health/PE teacher at Dutch Fork Middle school as well as a JV/Varsity football coach, and previously held the title of head coach for Peru's Girls Varsity Flag Football team in the Spring 2024 season.
Some fun facts about me are that I ride a motorcycle, I enjoy pottery, painting, and reading, and I come from a military family.
I believe that the purpose of a physical education class is to create physically literate individuals in multiple content areas while molding them into good and productive members of society. I believe that school leaders should practice what they preach and be admirable role models for their students. To help students learn, teachers must be able to adapt to specific student needs and learning styles while creating a positive atmosphere and being supportive to all students and their unique differences. I believe that students must be invested in their learning in all subjects and have the desire to succeed.
My motivation for coaching is to aid athletes in finding their strengths and building upon their weaknesses. I desire to be the type of coach that pushes their athletes to find their greatest potential beyond the limitations of their minds , while also being attentive to not push them too far beyond their limits. I believe coaching is the right fit for me because I am consistently pushing myself to find my best self, and I believe that having a good role model leads to elevated levels of respect and understanding within a coach/athlete dynamic. I believe that a good coach is a resource for their athletes and supports them in not their sport alone, but other areas of their lives.
I believe that an equal opportunity to all students of various backgrounds is imperative in education as each individual is unique in their own way. I will create an inclusive and open environment where all students feel safe, seen, and heard. I plan to incorporate sports from each culture into my PE curriculum, teaching the history of the sports as well as how they’ve evolved. I will also take time out of class to discuss current events that affect minority students and ensure they have a safe space to converse about their feelings openly and honestly.
