Both courses teach the principles of analytical chemistry.

We also have fun. For example, one lab project was designing an arduino-controlled air sensor for carbon dioxide, refrigerants, and volatile organic compounds (VOCs).

We also measure fake vanillin in sweets by gas chromatography mass spectrometry, heavy metals in local water samples by voltammetry, dissolved organic carbon in drinking water by combustion, sweeteners in orange juices by liquid chromatography with amperiometric detection, and other analysis.

There is nothing more invigorating than Organic Chemistry lectures at 8:00 am in the morning.
