The Native American culture is one that adds its own uniqueness to this world just as every other culture. Indigenous tribes were most known to be in North America. The territories that this group of people lived and still do is today’s United States of America and Canada (Britannica, n.d.). Throughout Indigenous history within tribes, men and women were seen to be equal. However, even though both genders were equally respected, when it came to providing for family and the community, men took care of fishing and hunting, and women focused on gathering items and farming. When it came to raising children, it was a community effort. Adults would: teach, tell stories, pass down spiritual ways to heal, natural medicines, rituals, and celebrations to prepare the youth to take over the tribe someday (Native Hope, n.d.).
The reason why I chose to focus on the Native American population is because it is a group I would like to learn more about, especially since I have the possibility of working with individuals that live on a Native American reservation. I am also looking forward to learning about their history and how change within their tribes has affected all generations today. When it comes to personal biases, I cannot say that I have any. When it comes to my experience with those who are of the indigenous race, my experience has been good. People I had gone to school with over the years that were indigenous I thought were kind human beings. Overall, I am sure that this will be an exciting experience to take to have further knowledge about the Native American population.
