The Story Itself

Here's the short story-poem I wrote and later brought to life by use of p5.js...

I chose to write this story-poem about the "key lessons of digital citizenship" and teach children the timeless topic of internet kindness

How many people do you think are in the world?

There are over 8 million people that live in NYC

There are over 300 million people live in the United States

There are almost 8 BILLION people that live in world

But how many people do you think are on the internet?

There are more than 4.5 billion human beings on the internet.

That means more than HALF of the world is on the internet!

Some people use the internet to watch videos (YouTube)

Or to find directions to their favorite food place

Or to find the answers to their questions

The internet is full of possibility!

The internet also lets us talk with other people that we might not be able to see in person

When talking to someone on the internet, you could say something not nice!

You could say something mean about somebody’s dog

You could say things about people’s appearance

You could point out all the words they misspelled

You could type hurtful comments in ALL CAPS

But you wouldn’t do this

And this I know

You’re one of those billions contributing to a kinder and happier internet

Today, you’ll share something wonderful!

Something kind about somebody’s dog

Give someone a nice compliment

You will show all that we can be kind, together and forever

Always remember

There are 4.5 billion very real people

With feelings here on the internet
