This project explores how social media affects both society and my own daily life. It includes reviewing research data, taking a social media addiction quiz, and reflecting on how these tools shape behaviors, communication, and personal habits.
After taking the social media addiction quiz, my results showed that I use social media a “fair amount.” This means I’m not heavily dependent on it, but it still plays a noticeable role in my daily routine. Reflecting on this, I realized that I often check social media out of habit, especially when I’m bored, taking a break, or trying to avoid something else I should be doing.
Seeing this result made me more aware of how easily social media fits into my day without me really thinking about it. Even though I’m not at a high-risk level, I can still recognize moments where I rely on it more than necessary, and that’s something I want to pay more attention to.
One statistic that stood out to me from the Pew Research Center is that 58% of teens say social media helps them feel more connected to what’s going on in their friends’ lives.”. I chose this statistic because it highlights one of the positive sides of social media that is often overlooked.
It’s interesting because even though social media is usually criticized for causing anxiety or distraction, many young people actually experience stronger friendships and emotional support through these platforms. This shows that social media is not purely negative it can be meaningful when used in healthy ways.

In my opinion, social media has both positive and negative impacts on society. On one hand, it provides fast communication, makes it easy to access information, and gives people a platform to express themselves. It has become a major tool for raising awareness about social issues, helping people stay informed, and connecting communities across the world.
However, social media also contributes to problems such as misinformation, comparison culture, and shortened attention spans. Many people, especially teenagers, feel pressure to look perfect online or get enough likes and followers. This can affect mental health and create unrealistic expectations. I also think social media spreads rumors and false information quickly, which can influence how people think without them checking the facts. Overall, social media is powerful, but society is still learning how to use that power responsibly. Its impact depends largely on how mindful we are when using it.
Through this project, I learned how important it is to be aware of my own social media habits. I realized how quickly social media can influence emotions, productivity, and self-image without me noticing. I also learned to think more critically about the information I see online and to question whether it’s accurate. Finally, I gained a better understanding of both the benefits and risks of social media and how it shapes modern communication and culture.
