Do's List ☑
☑ Hanging Packing Cube
A hanging packing cube is a game-changer for hostel stays and on-the-go travel. While no one else had one, I received plenty of compliments for mine. It’s perfect for hanging up in a hostel room, allowing you to easily see your clothing options without digging through multiple packing cubes. The added storage space helps keep everything organised, and it’s easy to pack back into your bag. It’s a simple yet incredibly practical item that saves time and makes living out of a bag much more convenient.
☑ Undergarment Organiser
An undergarment organiser with multiple pockets is a must-have for keeping your essentials neatly packed and easily accessible. It’s perfect for storing bikinis, socks, underwear, and other small items, ensuring they stay organised and wrinkle-free. With separate compartments, you can quickly find what you need without rummaging through your bag, making packing and unpacking much smoother while traveling.
This clothing packing list is completely dependent on personal preference and the countries and weather you’ll be traveling to.
What works for a summer backpacking trip through Southeast Asia will be totally different from a winter adventure in Europe. The key is to pack for versatility, layering, and practicality.
A good rule of thumb is to pack enough clothes for two weeks (especially underwear -- coming from personal experience!!!) as laundry can sometimes be difficult to do on the road. This ensures you’re prepared without overpacking.
And remember, this is coming from a self-confessed overpacker—so take it from me when I say less is more!

☑ Sneakers
Sneakers are a must-bring for any trip due to their versatility and comfort. They’re perfect for everyday wear, whether exploring a city or walking around all day. I brought my panda dunks, which worked great for both daytime sightseeing and going out at night. If you plan on tackling big hikes, it’s also a good idea to pack a second pair of hiking sneakers for added support and durability. Sneakers are a travel essential that keeps your feet comfortable and ready for whatever your adventure throws your way.
☑ Sandals
Sandals are a travel essential, especially for destinations with warm weather. You’ll want a pair that’s versatile enough to wear daily at the beach or easily slip on for a casual outing but also nice enough to wear to a fancy dinner. I brought my Birkenstocks, which were perfect for both. They provided comfort for all-day wear and still looked stylish for a more polished evening look. A good pair of sandals can be a game-changer, offering practicality and style during your travels.
☑ Shower Shoes
Shower shoes are a must when staying in hostels or other shared accommodations. A cheap pair of basic sandals will protect your feet from foot fungus and other germs commonly found in public showers. They’re lightweight, easy to pack, and give you peace of mind while keeping your feet safe and clean. It’s a small investment that can save you from discomfort.
☑ Plastic Poncho
A plastic poncho is a small, compact essential to have on hand, just in case the weather turns rainy. It’s lightweight and takes up hardly any space in your bag. Besides keeping you dry, it can also serve as an emergency mat to sit on wet ground or cover your bags to keep them from getting soaked. It’s a simple item that can be a lifesaver in unpredictable weather conditions.
Don'ts List ☒
☒ Long Pyjama Pants
Long pyjama pants take up valuable bag space and are often too hot for warmer climates. Opt for lighter sleepwear like shorts or a sleep dress instead, saving space and staying more comfortable.
☒ Normal, Strapless & Bralettes
Normal bras, strapless bras, and bralettes often take up unnecessary space in your bag. I’ve found that I usually went braless or wore bikinis under my clothes, which worked just as well for comfort and convenience. This saved room in my luggage and avoided the hassle of packing multiple bras for different outfits.
