SITE SPECIFIC PERFORMANCE

1. What level of experience is required?

No specific level or academic background is required. The artistic residency is open to artists, performers, students, and researchers from different fields.

What matters most to us is:
• a willingness to explore
• openness to the process
• and a desire to engage in artistic work within a collective, participatory environment

If you already have experience in performance, you will have the opportunity to deepen your practice. If you are in a transitional stage, this is a great opportunity to explore new directions.

2. Do I need experience in site-specific performance?

Not necessarily. The residency also functions as an introduction to the logic of site-specific performance. We will work from the ground up:
• how to “read” a place
• how to listen to the environment
• how to translate this relationship into artistic practice

This means you can join either with experience or with curiosity.

3. What should I expect from the daily schedule?

The daily program of the residency includes:
• morning or afternoon practices in the landscape
• individual and group research
• feedback sessions and discussions

4. Will I have time to rest or for personal time?

Yes, and it is an important part of the experience. The residency is designed to include:
• time for decompression
• time to observe the landscape
• time for personal practice without guidance

Often, these “in-between” moments create the threshold for the most interesting ideas.

5. What will we present at the end?

The final presentation is about:
• the process you developed
• the relationship you built with the place
• and the questions that emerged

It may take the form of:
• a short performance
• an action in the landscape
• a collective composition
• or even an open experiment/question

6. How are participants selected?

There is a selection process, as places are limited.
What we consider is:
• your interest in the theme
• your artistic intention (not necessarily “experience”)

We aim to create a diverse, international group.

7. What makes Kaiafas area special as a location?

The Kaiafas area is multidimensional, combining a lake, sea, and mountain, thermal springs with a history dating back to antiquity, and an ecosystem in constant transformation.

This creates an environment ideal for site-specific artistic work, where the place itself asserts a strong and dynamic presence.

8. Will there be continuous guidance or a more open structure?

During the workshop preparation phase, you will receive:
• specific tools and methodologies
• guidance in composition
• feedback

Alongside the freedom to develop your own direction.

The program offers:
• the structure and tools of a workshop
• as well as the time, space, and collectivity of a residency

9. What should I bring with me?

We usually suggest:
• comfortable clothes for outdoor environments
• swimwear
• materials and objects you wish to include in your practice

And above all, a willingness to experiment!
