The Building Code includes a monitoring plan to assess and analyze structural deflections and soil deformations to ensure the protection of adjacent properties and structures when excavation takes place near the adjacent structures. Even small, but incremental deflections may cause significant damage to nearby structures, resulting in complaints to the Department of Buildings, Stop Work Order issuance, legal action, and expensive repair work.
The following is a standard monitoring plan to use in the excavation process:
Surveys of all adjacent pre-conditional structures
Strategically placed Vibration Control at neighboring structure locations
Placed on neighboring structures, crack gauges and convergence sensors
Optical survey goals are mounted on adjacent structures and new underpinning along the inside face as required to support excavation components.
Throughout the excavation process, Kagaoan Engineering will provide a well-designed engineering monitoring plan that provides real-time measurement of fractures, ground motions, and building movements. Visit us today!
