Meet the researchers

Kae-Jiun Chang, Ph.D.

Principal Investigator

Kae-Jiun received his B.S. from National Tsing Hua University and M.S. from National Yang-Ming University in Taiwan, where he conducted research in Dr. Jui-Chou Hsu's lab and Dr. Soo-Chen Cheng's lab, respectively. He then completed his Ph.D. training in Dr. Matthew Rasband's lab at Baylor College of Medicine and obtained his postdoctoral training in Dr. Jonah Chan's lab at the University of California, San Francisco. He is now an assistant professor in the Department of Neurobiology at the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston. [Google Scholar]

Pei-Jung Lee

Lab Manager

Pei-Jung received her B.S. from Tatung University and obtained her research training in Dr. Soo-Chen Cheng's lab in the Institute of Molecular Biology at Academia Sinica in Taiwan. Later, she worked in Dr. Herman Dierick's lab at Baylor College of Medicine and constructed the very first line of transgenic fruit flies for translating ribosome affinity purification. Pei-Jung is also an artist, who makes the scientific illustrations for the lab.

Kyeongmin Kim, Ph.D.

Postdoctoral Scholar

Kyeongmin received her B.E. from Jeonbuk National University and conducted her Ph.D. research in Dr. Bae Hwan Lee’s lab at Yonsei University in South Korea. She studied neuropathic pain and focused on the insular cortex, which is related to the affective-motivational component of pain perception, and received her Ph.D. in 2022. She then moved to Galveston, Texas and joined our lab in 2023.

Hannah Vedder

Graduate Student

Hannah received her B.S. in Neuroscience from Baylor University. Her prior bench training was done in the labs of Dr. Tristan Li (studying microglia) and Dr. Joseph Corbo (studying retinal biology) at the Washington University in St. Louis School of Medicine before matriculating at UTMB in 2023. Hannah is currently pursuing her Ph.D. in neuroscience and is interested in myelination during development and degeneration.
