My career goal is to become an electrical engineer and build a career working with electrical systems, particularly in the aerospace and defense industry. I have always been interested in how electrical systems work and how they are designed, tested, and improved. Through my education at Chopticon High School and the Dr. James A. Forrest Career & Technology Center, I have developed a foundation in engineering, electronics, computer-aided design, and manufacturing. These experiences have helped me realize that electrical engineering is the career path I want to pursue.
My experience at NAVAIR's Electrical Power Systems and Environmental Facility (EPSEF) has given me valuable hands-on experience that has strengthened my interest in electrical engineering. While working there, I have had the opportunity to work around actual UH-1Y and UH-1Z helicopters and gain a better understanding of their electrical systems. I have participated in generator testing by using wire taps to measure AC and DC electrical output and taking thermal readings to monitor system performance. Working with real aircraft has allowed me to connect the concepts I have learned in school to real-world engineering applications.
I have also gained experience in environmental testing, which has helped me understand how engineering systems are evaluated under different conditions. I have been exposed to testing involving temperature, humidity, altitude, UV radiation, and simulated blowing rain. I have also learned how Dewesoft is used for data acquisition, monitoring, and analysis during engineering tests. These experiences have taught me the importance of accurate testing, attention to detail, teamwork, and following established procedures when working with complex electrical and engineering systems.
After graduating from high school, I plan to continue my education in engineering and pursue a degree in electrical engineering. My goal is to continue developing my knowledge of electrical power systems, aircraft systems, testing, and engineering design while gaining additional hands-on experience. I want to use the skills I have developed through my education and apprenticeship to become a well-rounded engineer who can solve complex problems and contribute to important projects.
Ultimately, I hope to build a long-term career as an electrical engineer in the aerospace or defense industry. My experiences at EPSEF have shown me how engineering principles are applied to real aircraft and testing environments, and they have motivated me to continue pursuing this field. I believe that my strong work ethic, willingness to learn, technical experience, and interest in electrical systems will help me succeed in my future career. I look forward to continuing my education, gaining more experience, and eventually contributing to the development, testing, and improvement of advanced electrical systems.
