Week 1
Week 1
This semester we don't have many jobs except for the Bioscience trophy, which that job has been put on hold for the moment due to a lack of materials. As such, we have started speculating what types of jobs we could get so that everyone has something to do. I tried to work on making our stamps look better. We've also thought about the concept of creating key chains, as those can be applied to just about anything someone wants, such as sports teams and the like. We also just need to go out and get more constant jobs rather than waiting for large jobs.

We still have not finished the bioscience trophy which at this point it is getting kind of late. We tried staining the plaque but it didn't turn out how we would like it, so I'm going to sand the plaque down and try to salvage it. Once we've done that, we will reapply the coat differently. While doing that we have also begun making a special stamp for Li. Instead of being made of only wood besides the rubber bottom, we will include acrylic of the Laker's colors, so purple, yellow, purple. It seems to be coming out well, so I just need to make the rubber stamp part next week.
We still have not finished the bioscience trophy which at this point it is getting kind of late. So I applied a new coat to the bioscience trophy plaque after taking time to practice and learn how the stain works, and it turned out very good this time. Now we need to get the metal the name plates that go on the plaque. The problem with this is the fact that we can't cut the metal needed for it, so we have to order it online, which can get fairly pricey. We tried looking into materials we have on had but none would do a good job for what we want. We don't have much else going on at the time, Thomas is working on a thank you gift for Charlie.

This was my first week of D-Tech so I just tried my hardest to learn what Atto was trying to achieve and how they were going about it. I also spent the time learning how to use a few of the machines and how to operate them. Such was the case for the laser cutter and band saw, which I spent the most time with. I have a few ideas for jobs which I'll bring up to the group next week.

So this week I landed two jobs, one is for Seaward brewing and it entails making coasters for merchandise purposes. This week we made two example coasters to show to the buyer and as soon as he chooses between the two we will continue with the project. The other job I landed was a T-shirt job for Fillmore middle school. They need 30-40 ASB T-shirts but seeing as their fall break is right now we can't proceed past the design period.

So for this week the T-shirts are on the back burner and instead we are working on doorstops. Andrew and Thomas are designing them and Avid and I are making them. So far we have four blocks of wood ready for engraving. Also while we have been doing this Daniel has been working on our largest job which consists of a whole lot of trophies.

This week has been slow for me personally, I have made more blocks for doorstops which takes gluing to pieces of wood together then cutting them in half and sanding to perfection. I have also gotten more details on the ASB Shirts. While I have been doing that Daniel finished his Trophy job and not going to lie they look amazing.

We finally finished the doorstops and have given them to teachers. They are good enough to be kept as a novelty item rather than be used to stop doors according to Mr. Li. Also I have confirmed the T-Shirt job, Andrew is making the designs and Avid and I are looking at blank T-shirts to buy. It's great to see the jobs start coming in.

This week we started working on the ASB shirts. We did the emulsion on Tuesday, which took much longer than I expected but it came out good. On Thursday we started on some practice shirts to get the process down. The process was pretty simple but fun at least.

We started printing on the final shirts this week. Really not much happened just a whole lot of rinse and repeat of the same process. This process consisted of put the shirt on the holder then do one swab of ink. Then turn the tables around and heat for about 15 seconds then turn the table around and do two swabs of the ink. Finally turn the table again and let heat for 20 seconds after that take the shirt off the holder and heat till the shirt steams. And rise and recreate for 40 shirts.

We finished the shirts this week. We ended up with a few extras so we included it in the full shipment because we could do anything with them. I delivered the shirts this week too. The payment should show up some time in the next three weeks. I had a lot of fun with this project, one because I learned a new skill and two we made a whole lot of profit.

The house joust started this week. I believe that our group isn't too interested in this joust mainly because we have a lot of work going on, between a project for Bioscience, some more door stops and more stamps which i'm personally working on. We still plan to turn in a submission but we don't plan on taking on a job in the end.

A lot of wood work going on this week. Avid and Ethan are working on making the Bioscience plaque and Liam and I are working on making new stamps. Liam is working on making stamp bases on the CNC whereas I'm cutting a piece of 2 by 4 into a rough shape and then sanding into the final shape.

This week I finished my stamp and began to stain said stamp, which turned out to be much more work than I expected. I would leave the stamp to dry over night and when it finished drying it looked a little gross so I stained it again which helped but it still wasn't perfect. So I'm going to stain the stamp again and let it dry and hope it turns out better.
