My earliest art-making memory is when I was around two or three years old. My mom would purchase big rolls of blank newsprint paper from the local newspaper. She would roll this paper out, provide me with various paint brushes and paint, and allow me to create without boundaries. Throughout my life, I continued to create and found this form of expression an important aspect of my life and identity.
As I approached "adult life" and had to make some major life decisions, I decided that art was not in my future. I started college as an English Major and Spanish Minor. While I truly loved learning a new language, I did not especially jive with the Spanish teacher. I remember calling my mom while walking through the quad and explaining to her that I needed to switch my minor. I needed something practical and safe. She suggested art. "What am I going to do with an Art Minor?" I asked, "Live in a van down by the river?!?!"
Spoiler Alert: I live in a house. By a river.
I hold a Bachelor of Arts with a Major in English and Minor in Fine Arts. I also hold a Master of Teacher Education with endorsements to teach secondary Language Arts and all levels of Fine Arts. In 2024, I completed an Art Therapy Practitioner course through Scholistico. I have been a public educator since 2008 and have experience teaching students of all ages-- from preschoolers to adults.
Throughout my life, I have created various artworks-- gifts, commissioned pieces, window paintings, murals, digital art and design, and more. My art style is what I would consider contemporary street art or abstract art. I value bold, bright, happy, flat areas of color. I live for bold contour lines and eye-catching designs that spark curiosity and exploration. My motto is that art should be fun because life is too serious.
