Kabul Plate is a family-owned catering business serving State College, PA, and Centre County since early 2025. It is the first Afghan food business in the area. We provide fresh and high-quality food with professional services.
Our family of four arrived in State College in April 2022 from Kabul, Afghanistan. We were the first Afghan refugee family to settle in State College without any affiliation to Penn State University. Upon our arrival, we quickly realized that we missed Afghan cuisine and culture in the area, which led us to consider opening an Afghan food establishment. However, our plans evolved when, within three months of our arrival, Storai secured employment with Penn State University, followed by Murtaza becoming a full-time student at Penn State a few months later.
During this time, we focused on community building by sharing our food and culture with friends in the State College area. We invited individuals to our home and celebrated our culture in various events, where we received significant encouragement. This support inspired us to explore the possibility of starting a catering business, ultimately leading to the inception of Kabul Plate Catering.Â
Storai serves as the Chef, stating, "I come from a diverse family and observed my family, particularly my mother, preparing a variety of dishes. My interest in cooking began at the age of 10." Murtaza fulfills the role of Manager, sharing, "I learned to cook from my wife, Storai. Her dishes are always delicious, so to give her a break, I committed myself to mastering her recipes. I am now capable of cooking and working alongside her."
