Our lab has fostered a strong partnership over the years with principal investigators of multidisciplinary research in biological and clinical psychology. This includes the Cognitive Psychology Lab at Hiroshima University. Chief among these shared interests is exploratory research on the effects of the original Japanese psychotherapy, Dohsa-hou, and its configurations in stress management programs. Updated grant reports will be announced very soon on the Hiroshima University Institutional Repository.
The Lab Director has engaged in projects on developmental psychology via strengths-based frameworks of youth development. Our lab is an active member of the international consortium led by Nora Wiium. A key test for our work in self-efficacy at the Kabir Lab is related to the role of the 5 Cs of PYD in Japan. For more information, see the Selected Publications page for some of our findings.
We are working with researchers from Osaka Jogakuin College and Kwansei Gakuin University on dispositional characteristics, social factors, pedagogical practices, and educational programs that enhance intercultural effectiveness. In addition, the Lab Director has piloted new curricular activities that promote experiential capital through intercultural interactions for Japanese learners of English. See Selected Publications for more on the progress of this endeavor.
The Kabir Lab collaborates with the Psycholinguistics Lab at Hiroshima University. We are especially focused on the relationship between response times and working memory indices in experimental learning conditions of images and referents as tests of Paivio's bilingual dual coding theory.
