If you want a long, sturdy extension that keeps a wired headset tethered to a PC, hi-fi or phone, choose KabelDirekt; if you need to plug wired headphones into a modern USB-C phone or tablet that dropped its headphone jack, choose ZOOAUX PRO 2. These are two different tools solving two different problems, and the honest answer is that most people should buy based on the port they actually have.
• KabelDirekt's biggest trade-off: it only extends an existing analog jack — it adds no audio conversion, so a phone without a headphone port gains nothing from it.
• ZOOAUX PRO 2's biggest strength: it turns a USB-C port into a working 3.5mm output using a built-in DAC chip, with inline call, pause and volume control on the adapter itself.
• ZOOAUX PRO 2's biggest trade-off: it is a short dongle, not a long run, and some inline controls (like Apple EarPods volume buttons) are not supported, so volume has to be adjusted on the device.
• For a stationary desk, TV or stereo setup → KabelDirekt.
• For a phone, tablet or laptop with only USB-C → ZOOAUX PRO 2.
The KabelDirekt headset extension is a specialist tool, and it does one job extremely well: it puts more distance between you and your audio source without degrading the signal. The 20 ft length is the headline number here, and it matters more than it sounds. If you're wired into a desktop PC, a receiver or a TV, 20 ft is the difference between a leash and actual freedom — you can step back from the desk, sit on the couch, or move around a small room while still wearing your headset.
The build is where KabelDirekt leans hardest. The plug uses a CTIA-standard 3.5mm male-to-female layout, which means it carries both audio and microphone signals, so headset functions like play, pause, next and mic keep working through the extension rather than dying at the connector. Around the solder points there's an extra metal shell — a small detail, but it's exactly the spot where cheap extension cables fail first, because that's where flexing stress concentrates. The conductors are high-purity copper under a PVC jacket, and the cable stays flexible rather than stiffening into a coil you have to fight. End-to-end shielding plus gold-plated connectors are aimed at keeping the run clean and free of the hiss or hum that long, poorly shielded cables can introduce.
Who should skip it? Anyone whose phone or laptop has no headphone jack. KabelDirekt can't invent a port that isn't there. And if you need a permanent, semi-installed run, the 20 ft length is generous but the packaging dimensions and weight suggest a fairly standard coil — it's made to be moved and re-coiled, not stapled into a wall.
ZOOAUX PRO 2: Who It's For
ZOOAUX PRO 2 is the opposite kind of product: a compact USB-C to 3.5mm adapter that exists because most modern phones deleted the headphone jack. You plug the dongle into your USB-C port, plug your wired headphones into the dongle, and you're back in business. No drivers, no software, no setup — plug and play.
The core of it is a DAC chip, which is the component that converts the digital signal from your phone into analog audio your headphones can actually play. ZOOAUX describes it as an advanced DAC offering high-definition audio and noise reduction, which is the practical difference between a dongle that sounds thin and one that sounds like a proper headphone output. The adapter also carries inline controls, so you can answer calls, pause playback and adjust volume from the adapter rather than digging your phone out of a pocket.
Durability is where this one is unusually specific for a dongle. ZOOAUX claims a one-piece construction with a 100% copper core, rated to withstand over 20,000 bends and 15,000 plug-and-unplug cycles. Take those figures as manufacturer claims rather than lab results, but the design intent is clear: this is built to survive living in a pocket or bag, being yanked out of a phone one-handed, and being bent at the connector thousands of times. That's the failure mode that kills most cheap adapters, so it's the right thing to over-engineer.
Compatibility is the other big selling point, and the list is long: iPhone 15 through 17 series including Pro and Pro Max, iPad and iPad Pro, a wide spread of Samsung Galaxy S and Note models, Google Pixel 6 through 10, OnePlus, Huawei, MacBook, Mac mini, PS5 and Switch 2. It's a two-pack, which is genuinely useful — one stays in the bag, one lives at the desk. The 24-month warranty with customer support backs it up.
The trade-offs are real, though. It's a short dongle, so it doesn't extend anything — it converts. Apple EarPods volume buttons aren't supported, so you'll change volume on the device itself. And it's white, which is fine but not a stealth match for dark hardware. If you want length, this isn't the product.
• Best for reaching across a room → KabelDirekt. 20 ft of male-to-female 3.5mm is the whole point.
• Best for a phone with no headphone jack → ZOOAUX PRO 2. A DAC-equipped USB-C adapter is the only one of the two that can help.
• Best for microphone and inline controls on an analog setup → KabelDirekt. CTIA wiring keeps mic, play, pause and next working through the extension.
• Best for calls and quick controls on a USB-C phone → ZOOAUX PRO 2. Answer, pause and volume sit on the adapter.
• Best for ruggedness claims → ZOOAUX PRO 2. The bend and plug-cycle ratings target the exact way dongles die.
• Best for long-term confidence in a passive cable → KabelDirekt. A 36-month manufacturer's warranty on a simple shielded cable.
• Best for having a spare → ZOOAUX PRO 2. It ships as a two-pack.
• Best for hi-fi, receivers and car stereos → KabelDirekt. Analog-to-analog extension with gold-plated connectors and full shielding.
In my opinion, the deciding factor isn't quality — it's your port. If your source device has a 3.5mm jack and you just need distance, I'd buy the KabelDirekt. It's the more robust object of the two, the 20 ft run is genuinely useful, the shielded copper build is aimed at keeping long runs clean, and the 36-month warranty is the kind of coverage I want on a cable that gets yanked around. If your phone, tablet or laptop only has USB-C, none of that matters and I'd buy the ZOOAUX PRO 2 — the DAC chip, the broad device list and the two-pack make it the practical pick. Buy for the port you own, not the spec sheet you admire. Either way, check the current price on Amazon before you commit.
FAQ
They do different jobs, so "better" depends on your setup. KabelDirekt is better for extending an existing 3.5mm connection over distance with shielded copper and a metal-reinforced plug. ZOOAUX PRO 2 is better if your device has no headphone jack at all, because its DAC chip converts USB-C audio to analog.
Yes. It's a CTIA-standard headset extension, so it carries mic and inline controls like play, pause and next through the cable, not just stereo audio. That makes it suitable for headsets used for calls and gaming, not just music.
KabelDirekt is passive — it extends a signal without converting it, and its shielding and gold-plated connectors are there to avoid adding noise over a long run. ZOOAUX PRO 2 actively converts digital to analog via its DAC chip with noise reduction. Neither is a sound upgrade in the audiophile sense; they solve connection problems.
