If you want long-life protection and superior filtration for your motorcycle engine during oil changes, choose K&N Motorcycle Oil Filter; if you need a durable, weather-resistant plug to shield a 2-inch hitch receiver on your Dodge RAM, choose Mopar Genuine Dodge RAM. These two items serve fundamentally different mechanical purposes, yet they both appear in searches when owners of these specific vehicles are looking for genuine parts. I have seen too many buyers get confused because the search terms overlap or because they are simply shopping for "Dodge" and "K&N" parts at the same time. The reality is that one is an internal engine component designed to keep oil clean, while the other is an external accessory designed to keep water and debris out of a trailer hitch. Getting this distinction right is the first step in making a purchase that actually works for your vehicle's needs.
• K&N Motorcycle Oil Filter: Offers up to 20,000 miles of protection with high-efficiency synthetic media but is strictly limited to specific motorcycle models like the Yamaha XT250 or WR250F.
• Mopar Genuine Dodge RAM: Provides heavy-duty protection for a 2-inch hitch opening using Santoprene material that resists cracking and discoloration, but it is only compatible with 2005-2012 Dakota and RAM trucks.
• The Verdict: Buy the K&N filter if you are performing maintenance on a compatible Yamaha motorcycle and want extended drain intervals; buy the Mopar plug if you own a RAM truck and want to protect your hitch from rust and road grime.
This product is engineered specifically for riders who demand high performance from their engine's lubrication system. The core value proposition here is longevity. While standard filters might require replacement every few thousand miles, the K&N design targets up to 20,000 miles of protection. This isn't just about stretching the interval; it is about maintaining consistent flow rates and filtration efficiency over a much longer duration. The premium synthetic media features uniform pleats that allow for exceptional filtration without choking the engine's oil supply. For a rider who pushes their machine hard or takes long rides, this consistency matters more than a quick swap at the local shop.
The construction details tell us why this fits certain bikes better than others. It is listed as a direct factory replacement, meaning it is application-specific. You will find this unit fitting select 2007-2025 Yamaha models, including the XT250, YZ250FX, WR250F, YP125R, and X-Max Iron Max. If your bike falls into one of these categories, the design ensures easy installation without needing adapters or modifications. The compact dimensions of roughly 2 inches by 2 inches by 2 inches make it unobtrusive within the engine bay, and the lightweight build adds negligible mass to the machine.

However, this product is not for everyone. If you drive a truck or use a car, this filter will not fit. Furthermore, if you prefer changing your oil every 3,000 miles regardless of the filter's capability, the extended life feature becomes less relevant to your routine. You must also ensure you are using a compatible oil type; the data confirms it works with premium synthetic, conventional, and blended oils, so you have flexibility there. But if you ride a vehicle outside the specified Yamaha lineup, you should skip this entirely and look for a part number that matches your chassis.
This item is built for truck owners who want to preserve the utility of their vehicle's towing package. The primary function is simple: it plugs the 2-inch hitch receiver to prevent moisture, dirt, and road salt from entering the hollow metal tube. When left open, a hitch receiver acts like a chimney, inviting water and debris that lead to rust and corrosion. This Mopar plug stops that process in its tracks. The material choice is critical here. Made from Santoprene, the plug is engineered not to shrink, harden, crack, chalk, or discolor over time. This is a significant upgrade over cheap rubber plugs that degrade after a single winter season.
Compatibility is the next major factor for potential buyers. This specific part, identified by the number 82208454AB, is designed to fit 2005-2011 Dakota models and 2011-2012 RAM trucks. It is tailored for the 2-inch hitch receiver standard found on these vehicles. The inclusion of a retention strap and a four-way wiring plug holder suggests a thoughtful design intended to keep the plug secure and organized. The color is black, blending seamlessly with most truck exteriors, and the size is precisely 2 inches to ensure a snug fit without wobbling.
Who should avoid this? If you do not own a truck with a 2-inch hitch, this part is useless to you. It does not fit smaller hitches or larger ones. Additionally, if your vehicle is outside the 2005-2012 model range, you cannot assume it will fit without verification. While the durability of the Santoprene material is excellent, the physical dimensions are fixed. If you are looking for a decorative cover rather than a functional seal, this might be overkill, though the functionality of protecting against the elements is often the deciding factor for serious truck owners.
• Best for Engine Longevity: Choose the K&N filter if your goal is to extend the life of your motorcycle engine between oil changes by utilizing high-efficiency media.
• Best for Exterior Protection: Choose the Mopar plug if your priority is shielding a truck's hitch receiver from rust, water damage, and road debris.
• Best for Specific Vehicle Compatibility: Select the K&N unit only if you own a compatible Yamaha motorcycle (2007-2025); select the Mopar unit only if you own a 2005-2012 Dakota or RAM.
• Best Material Durability: The Mopar plug uses Santoprene, which resists environmental degradation like cracking and chalking far better than standard rubber alternatives.
• Best for Flow Rate: The K&N filter maintains high oil flow rates through uniform pleats, ensuring the engine breathes easily even under load.
• Best for Ease of Installation: Both products are designed for direct replacement, but the K&N filter requires mechanical access to the engine, while the Mopar plug is a simple drop-in task.
• Best for Versatility in Oil Types: The K&N filter explicitly supports premium synthetic, conventional, and blended oils, giving you flexibility in your maintenance schedule.
• Best Value for Towing Owners: For a truck owner, the Mopar plug offers peace of mind for a relatively low cost compared to the potential repair bill of a corroded hitch.
I would buy the K&N Motorcycle Oil Filter if I were preparing my Yamaha motorcycle for a rigorous riding season. The promise of 20,000 miles of protection combined with high-flow filtration represents a tangible improvement in engine care that goes beyond a standard maintenance routine. It directly addresses the wear and tear caused by long-distance travel and high-performance riding. Conversely, I would choose the Mopar Genuine Dodge RAM plug only if I owned a truck with a 2-inch hitch and wanted to prevent rust buildup. For oil changes specifically, the K&N unit is the clear winner for its ability to enhance engine health and reduce the frequency of service intervals. Both are excellent products for their intended applications, but they solve completely different problems.
