Hangul is the official name for the Korean language. Hangul was created by King Sejong, the 4th King of the Joseon Dynasty, in 1446. Before Hangul was created, Korean people used Chinese language, which was difficult for normal citizens. King Sejong noticed this and decided to create our own language that is simple and easy for everybody to use. As a result, Hangul developed into one of the most efficient alphabets in the world and Korea became the country with the highest literacy rate.
