Brief Biography

Jia-Yaw Chang received his Ph.D in Chemistry from National Tsing Hua University in 2004 under the supervision of Prof. Yong-Chien Ling. He was a visiting researcher in the laboratory of Prof. Weihong Tan at the University of Florida in 2003. From 2004 to 2009, he was a research scientist and a project leader at Industrial Technology Research Institute. He joined National Taiwan University of Science and Technology in 2009 as an Assistant Professor and became a Professor in 2015. His research interests include the synthesis and functionalization of nanomaterials in the areas of energy conversion, drug delivery, light-activated therapy, and bioimaging applications.

Research Interests

We are interested in the development of new methods for the controlled synthesis of metal, magnetic and semiconductor nanocrystals. Precise control of size and shape of nanocrystals allows one not only to observe unique properties of the nanocrystals but also to tune their electrical, optical, magnetic, and chemical properties as desired. Currently, our research interests include the synthesis, functionalization, and application of quantum dots. We are exploring the use of Perovskite, Graphene, and I–III–VI group quantum dots for biotechnological applications including multimodal imaging, targeting, diagnostics, and therapeutic actions. The applications of these quantum dots are also used in the quantum dot-sensitized solar cells because of their higher extinction coefficients and multiple exciton generation.
