As an amateur photographer, I am committed to sharing my passion for the wonder of nature - from majestic landscapes to the intimate insights found in creation.
I began my passion for photography as a spiritual practice, in order to be more present to the beauty and grace visible to me each day. Now in retirement, I seek to expand my ability to share the everyday wonders I experience.
Since I live in the southwest of the Denver metro area, many of my photos are taken in Colorado, and partcularly at nearby Harriman Lake. It's amazing how many new things one can see in the same place! Other common venues for my photos include western Washington State and northern Maryland, where two of our three children reside. In 2024, I have had the opportunity to take photos in many regions of the West, including Utah, New Mexico, Arizona and California.
A word about my brand name and logo:
The name ...
Whenever we tell people how to pronounce Gonia we invariable say, "it's like Patagonia without the pata." Thus was born the idea for Photogonia, a domain name already owned by someone in South America (which is only fair!) I decided to add my initials, JW, to create JWPhotoGonia.
JWPhotoGonia
The logo ...
The logo was inspired by one of my favorite owl photos, as well as by my affinity for these amazing creatures, who most often greet us at early dawn at one of our favorites spots at Harriman Lake, which we have aptly named "Owl Grove".
