PhD Student, Principal Investigator
I am currently pursuing my PhD at AGH University in Poland, where I engage in posthumanist anthropology, underpinned by new materialism, to conduct field research on social VR platforms. My research delves into the embodied dimension of user socio-cultural practices, examining the processes of hybridization and the reconfiguration of the boundaries of the (post)human body. This study is prompted by the growing popularity of social VR platforms and the advent of novel somatic phenomena therein. Moreover, VR serves as an anthropological laboratory for the body in my view, offering new perspectives on its study.
Part of the research is conducted under the grant 'Ethnographic Research on Polish Users of Social Virtual Reality' (IDUB AGH), with myself as the Principal Investigator.
Principal Investigator
I received funding in the National Science Centre’s Preludium competition for my project “Phantom Touch, Cybersex, Fitness for the Shy: A Meta-Ethnography of Virtual Embodiment in Social VR” (167,201 PLN; 36 months). In this project, I employ meta-ethnography to develop a comprehensive theory of virtual embodiment, examining how users of social VR platforms experience the relationship between their physical and virtual bodies and how they perform identity in virtual worlds.

In 2024, the interdisciplinary XR Body Research Group began its activities as part of the research grant "Research on the Relationship Between the Physical Body and the Virtual Body" carried out at AGH University (IDUB AGH).
