If you want a compact, on-ear design that prioritizes portability and punchy bass for quick listening sessions during meetings, choose JVC HAS180; if you need plush over-ear comfort with passive noise isolation for long conference calls, choose Generic FLYSONIC Lightweight Over.
• JVC HAS180: Delivers powerful bass in a lightweight, foldable on-ear package but lacks any form of noise cancellation or padding beyond the basics. Best for commuters who value space-saving design over total immersion.
• Generic FLYSONIC Lightweight Over: Offers superior comfort with plush earpads and a passive noise-canceling seal, featuring an extra bass boost and a longer tangle-free cord. Best for professionals who wear headphones for hours straight while working from home or in busy offices.
• The JVC model wins on sheer portability and brand heritage for audio fidelity in a small footprint.
• The Generic FLYSONIC model wins on ergonomics and staying power for extended wear during video conferences.
The JVC HAS180 is built for the person who needs to move fast without sacrificing the low-end punch they love in their music or call clarity. Its defining characteristic is the "on-ear" placement, which sits directly on top of the ear rather than surrounding it completely. This design choice makes the unit incredibly compact and easy to slip into a pocket or a small bag. At just 4.9 ounces, it is one of the lightest options available for wired headphones, meaning you won't feel the weight pressing down on your head even after an hour of use. If you are someone who frequently travels between office spaces, takes the train to work, or simply wants a pair of headphones that disappear when not in use, this is a serious contender.
For meetings specifically, the JVC HAS180 serves as a reliable tool for those who need to stay aware of their immediate surroundings while listening to audio. Because it does not feature passive noise cancellation or deep ear cups, sound leaks out easily, and external noises come in freely. This can be a massive advantage in open-plan offices where you need to hear colleagues calling your name or a receptionist announcing a visitor. However, this openness is also its weakness. If your meeting room is noisy, or if you are trying to focus deeply on a complex topic without distraction, the lack of isolation means you will likely have to turn up the volume to compete with the environment, which can strain your hearing over time.

You should buy the JVC HAS180 if you prioritize the quality of the dynamic driver and the specific frequency response it offers, ranging from 20Hz to 20,000Hz. This wide range ensures that both the deep rumbles of a movie soundtrack and the crisp highs of a violin are reproduced accurately. The white plastic enclosure gives it a clean, modern aesthetic that fits well with contemporary tech gear. However, you must skip this product if you have larger ears or if you find that on-ear designs cause discomfort after thirty minutes. The hard plastic construction, while durable, does not offer the cushioned embrace of over-ear models. Furthermore, since it uses a standard 3.5mm jack with no wireless capability, you are tethered to your device, so ensure your workspace allows for cable management before committing.
The Generic FLYSONIC Lightweight Over targets a very different user profile: the professional who treats headphones as an extension of their daily workflow rather than a temporary accessory. Its primary strength lies in the "over-the-ear" design, which features plush padded earpads that softly surround the entire ear. This creates a physical barrier against ambient noise, offering what the specifications list as "Passive Noise Cancellation." While it doesn't use active electronics to generate anti-noise waves, the seal created by the soft pads is sufficient to dampen the hum of air conditioners, the chatter of coworkers, and the background noise of a coffee shop. This makes it an ideal choice for anyone looking for in-ear headphones for meetings who actually needs silence to concentrate, despite the "in-ear" phrasing often used loosely for over-ear devices in casual conversation.
Comfort is the standout feature here, especially for extended wear. Instead, the focus is on the materials: the plush padding and the flexible over-ear shape are designed to minimize distractions. If you spend four, five, or six hours a day on Zoom calls or working on audio projects, the difference between resting on your ears and encircling them is significant. The Generic FLYSONIC also boasts a "long, tangle-free cord," which is a practical necessity for desktop setups. Unlike shorter cables that force you to hunch over your laptop, this length provides ample freedom of movement, allowing you to stand up, walk to the kitchen, or shift positions without worrying about pulling the jack out of your device.
This headphone is best suited for users who appreciate enhanced bass technology. The product description highlights "extra bass," which can make voices sound fuller and more present during conference calls, adding a layer of richness to the audio that flatter drivers might miss. With a standard 3.5mm jack, it connects universally to laptops, tablets, and smartphones, making it a versatile companion for a hybrid work lifestyle. However, you should consider skipping this model if you prefer a minimalist look or if you need something that folds down to the size of a credit card. The over-ear design is inherently bulkier, and while it includes folding features, it will still take up more space in a backpack than the JVC HAS180. Additionally, it is not water-resistant, so keep it away from sweat and rain if you plan to wear it outside.
• Best for portability → JVC HAS180. Its on-ear design and 4.9-ounce weight make it the clear winner for travelers and those who carry bags frequently.
• Best for comfort during long sessions → Generic FLYSONIC Lightweight Over. The plush, over-ear padding reduces pressure points far better than hard plastic earcups.
• Best for noise isolation → Generic FLYSONIC Lightweight Over. The passive noise cancellation provided by the sealed ear design blocks out more environmental noise than the open JVC fit.
• Best for bass emphasis → Both, but differently. JVC offers a tight, powerful bass from its dynamic driver, while Generic FLYSONIC uses "extra bass" technology for a deeper, more resonant feel.
• Best for cord management → Generic FLYSONIC Lightweight Over. The specified long, tangle-free cord is superior for desk-bound work compared to standard lengths.
• Best for situational awareness → JVC HAS180. The open-back nature of the on-ear design lets you hear your surroundings clearly, which is safer and more social in shared spaces.
• Best for durability → JVC HAS180. The plastic enclosure and simple mechanical design suggest robust longevity, whereas the plush pads on the Generic model may show wear faster over years of use.
• Best for universal compatibility → Tie. Both rely on the standard 3.5mm jack, ensuring they work with almost any audio source without adapters.
In my opinion, for the specific use case of for meetings, I would choose the Generic FLYSONIC Lightweight Over. While the JVC HAS180 is a fantastic piece of engineering for music lovers on the go, the reality of modern remote work demands a level of comfort and isolation that only the over-ear design can provide. When you are sitting through back-to-back video calls, the ability to block out the hum of the house or the street noise outside is not a luxury; it is a requirement for productivity. The plush padding of the Generic FLYSONIC ensures that your ears do not ache after two hours, and the passive noise cancellation helps you focus on the speaker rather than the background chaos. The "extra bass" feature also adds a warmth to voices that makes conversations feel more natural and engaging. If you need a dedicated pair of on ear headphones for meetings where you need to stay alert to your environment, the JVC is great, but for the majority of professionals seeking a reliable, comfortable, and immersive experience for daily work, the Generic FLYSONIC is the smarter investment.
No, both the JVC HAS180 and the Generic FLYSONIC Lightweight Over are wired headphones that connect via a standard 3.5mm jack. Neither model includes Bluetooth or battery life, so they rely entirely on a physical connection to your device.
The Generic FLYSONIC Lightweight Over is superior for blocking noise. Its over-ear design with plush pads offers passive noise cancellation, creating a seal around your ears. The JVC HAS180 sits on top of the ear and does not isolate sound, allowing office chatter to pass through easily.
No charging is required for either model. Since they are powered directly by the audio signal from your device through the cable, there are no batteries to deplete or charge cycles to manage, making them ready to use instantly every time.
At 4.9 ounces, the JVC HAS180 is extremely light and unlikely to cause neck strain for most users. However, some people with larger heads may find the clamping force of the on-ear design uncomfortable over long periods compared to the distributed weight of the over-ear Generic FLYSONIC.
