Our students are engaged in a carpentry class! They are learning a trade while building skills that they can use in their future careers and in life!
Our students have created birdhouses, cutting boards and raised garden beds! Check out pictures and videos of their work in the links below.
Our students took on the art and craft of cutting boards. After identifying the design they wanted to pursue, they used a robot to cut the wood designs into the boards. They then sanded the boards and rounded the edges using a specialized power tool!
Students' sketches were loaded into a computer and the robot cut the boards to an exact science!
Once the image is loaded, the computer does all the work!
Our students work together to help each other hold the boards while sanding!
We used several different types of sandpaper to ensure our boards were smooth!
Patience is required. Our students learned to move the sanding machines in a circular motion.
Our next project has been working to create raised garden beds for our community! Our first lesson was about measuring and using drills! Check out a measurement lesson and photos below!
Check out this short video around measuring wood before cutting. "Always go by what you have, not what you think you have."
Our students are not ready for the table saw yet, but they learned safety around the saw and how to stay safe while using the saw!
