I started this project last year, but never finished it. For this new version, and after learning more about Virtual Reality UI/UX, I wanted to make a more intuitive experience.
For accessibility, I wanted to make the whole thing gaze-based, so users do not have to click from their mobile devices. Google Cardboard does not always support a click-based interaction.
Before, I had all the images laid out in front of you and they spread in 360. This could be confusing.
This time, I created a menu for each floor so the user has a general idea of where they are at any given moment. All of the images fell into one of three groups.
Traditional portals are circular, but I wanted that bridged the difference between a portal and a link, because the user is technical on the web.
I accomplished this by swapping the source image of a link with a 2D preview of the spherical image. Now, when you look at a place, you see what it will look like before you are taken there.
While I think that points of interest are important for virtual tours, I need to do more research about the types of things people are interested in for Real Estate and Museums before I assume.
Another thing is that if these points of interest include spatial audio, 2D video, or other types of media, I might need to consider the web hosting space that I use before I can accomidate.
