Throughout my courses I have obtained psychological knowledge and skills that I can effectively apply to enhance my performance in many professional settings. Scientific methods and theories have taught me how to better understand the human mind alongside behavior so that I may appropraitely help a diverse population of individuals. Skills I have learned are communication, collaboration, advocating, leadership, goal-setting and achieving, promoting a growth mindset, resiliency, cultural competency, and many others that are useful within the workplace. These skills and strategies, alongside praising the "yet", rewarding the use of effort and learning process, promoting change, motivation, resiliency, and accepting and embracing errors are important skills to maintain a leadership role and create more learning opportunities. Apply my skills and knowledge offers individuals a moment for self-evaluation and allows room to reframe challenges and approaches to problems next time. When we make others feel good about improving and learning from mistakes, we can create an environment that is accepting and thrives towards success.
I have learned many aspects of psychology that have contributed critically to my learning experience during my courses at SNHU. These aspects and my learning experience have taught me much about myself along with understanding others. Gaining a better understanding of my own traits, biases, and lived experiences has helped me to gain a professional mindset that will properly serve those within a professional setting. For example, the humanistic approach is a psychological concept that can be used to heighten awareness of the need for social change. This concept emphasizes looking at the whole person, their uniqueness, and begins with the existential assumptions that people have free will and are motivated to achieve their potential and self-actualize. It teaches us the essence of human nature while giving us an insight on why individuals behave and think the way they do. When we can understand humans as individuals, we can create an environment where they feel safe and accepted. When individuals feel humanized and understood they are more liable to expand their mindsets and see from other perspectives as well. Therefore, by using this concept we can heighten awareness and create social change.Â
The soft skills that best promote my ability to thrive in a rapidly changing professional environment can be seen as communication, empathy, understanding, active listening, leadership, advocating, problem-solving, teamwork, and time management. These skills support success as they are inclusive, diverse, and provide a platform where individuals can use their voices, feel heard and understood, and be motivated to achieve their goals. These skills will help to increase productivity, self-confidence, team dynamics, retention rates in the workplace, and essentially improve relationships, creating trust and dependability.
