Board of Directors

Stacy Zhang

Founder, Marketing Director

Hello! My name is Stacy and I am the founder of JFS Magazine. I am a grade 11 student from the GTA and I currently attend Unionville High School for its Arts Unionville piano program. I intend on pursuing business and/or law in my future. In my free time, you can catch me partaking in other youth initiatives, jamming to some music, or cuddling with my pet cat.

I started this organization with two primary goals: to bring problematic social issues into light to keep our generation educated; and to provide youth with a platform where they can share their experiences in regards to those issues. In today's time, it is more crucial than ever when it comes to staying educated on topics that ever-increasingly affect those around us. On that note, I can't wait to see how far JFS will go and what we will achieve in the coming future!

Maggie Chen

Editor-in-Chief, External Affairs Director

Hi! My name is Maggie, I am currently in grade 11 at Unionville High School in Markham, Ontario and a proud member of the Arts Unionville piano program. I plan on pursuing a career in computer science or software engineering, but that doesn't diminish my passion for advocating for social justice. In recent years, with the help of educated peers, I have come to be more aware of the privileges that I took for granted in the past and the severity of social issues hidden within society. Henceforth, I firmly believe that the first step to addressing these issues is to make information about them accessible and the voices of those affected by them heard. With social media widening the scope of outreach and availability of knowledge, I believe it’s a duty for me, as a youth who has access to these platforms, to advocate for better.

Jasmine Leung

Podcast Director

Hi everybody, I'm Jasmine and I'm the Podcast Director on the exec team! As a youngster at 16 residing in Ontario, Canada, political science, psychology and social justice have always been things I've been passionate about. To stay sane, I like to soften up my driven days by conceding to my passion for fashiondressing up in peak-of-personality outfits, albeit perhaps never suitable for the weather. I also like to calm myself down with music, which has lead to me being a part of the AU Piano program at Unionville High. As such, I am committed to being the vice president of public relations on the exec team, and look forward to providing you all with easy and accessible content regarding social justice issues.

Shifa Nabi

Content Director, Journalist

Hello! My name is Shifa, and I’m a 17-year-old Kashmiri-Canadian writer in Mohkínstsis/Calgary, Alberta. I’m passionate about decolonial science and anti-imperialist schools of thought, and I’m an active advocate for South Asian issues and representation in journalism. I’m committed to providing easy and accessible resources for youth to learn about nuanced societal topics, and facilitating critical educational discussions among readers and their communities. I hope that my work will resonate with readers as I continue to strive to amplify and uplift marginalized voices on a wider scale. In my spare time, I enjoy skateboarding, science fiction, and cooking.

Christopher Williams

Content Director, Journalist

My name is Christopher, but you’re welcome to call me Chris as long as you agree to an equally as mundane nickname. I have an affinity for social justice, criminal psychology, and soaking up any scraps of knowledge. Riddled with endless curiosity, lavished with nugatory information, and adorned with enough indignation to make you raise a brow, I’m your ordinary angsty teen. I spend most of my time spinning words into stories or indulging in the writing of others. I’ve always got my headphones on—they serve as a sound buffer between me and the outside world so that reality can’t touch me too intensely.

Jessica Zheng

Creative Director, Graphic Designer

Hey y’all, I’m Jessica and I’m a grade 11 IB student at Father Michael McGivney. I am interested in pursuing STEM but I have a knack for the arts. I’m a musical theatre nerd, who’s way too into superheroes and vintage clothes, and you can catch me vibing to Hozier with my spoiled furry son, Thor. As JFS’ creative director, I’m real excited to be working with such S tier people, and hope to make JFS the best that it can be!

Content Team

Jessie Watson

Journalist

I’m Jessie Watson. I’m 16, and I’m a journalist for JFS. I’m young and not very experienced in most of my interests; except writing. I’ve been writing, mostly creatively, for about 5 years now. Besides writing, I’m an avid science pursuer. I’ve been heavily involved with science since I started high school, though I’ve found myself sticking to biology for comfort. Besides that, I’ve become passionate about politics and morals. Politics reveal morals. I research for hours on what’s going on, what’s new. My overall goal is to help others have these teachings, but simply put and accessible.

Dharshini Kannan

Journalist

Hi! My name is Dharshini and l’m currently a senior student at Middlefield Collegiate Institute. I’m passionate about music, drama, film, and writing. My love for the language arts has often led me to explore the way many themes of social justice are tackled in the media around us, from classism in Bong Joong Ho’s Parasite (2019) to a Toronto Star article on intersectional feminism. I eventually wanted to include such themes in my own work, which led me to join this initiative. I’m excited to spread awareness and encourage others to contribute to the conversation regarding social justice!

Kelly Ye

Journalist

Hello, my name is Kelly (she/her)! I'm a student at Seaquam Secondary and a Journalist for JFS. As a hobby, I love to watch Ghibli movies and occasionally cry at them (??) and listen to the amazing soundtracks. According to the amazing and talented Amy Wong, I am creative and good at math (she's too kind). I'd consider myself to be a strong sciences student, though I have recently piqued an interest in psychology and politics. I have always held a passion for modern-day issues and I love to keep up with current events. I'm grateful that JFS has given me the opportunity to write about pressing issues in our society.

I spend most of my time practicing my instruments, composing music, rewatching the outsiders and rocky horror, and reading about history. Hey everyone, My name is Ianna (she/her) and I’m a Magazine Layout Coordinator as well as a Graphic Designer here at JFS. I joined the JFS team looking to educate others and to keep my mind open to the daily injustices faced by minority groups all around the world that the media turns a blind eye to. I love any form of creative outlet I can get my hands on, and I’m also a big advocate for team building as I’m a huge people person myself so this creative team was the perfect mix! I love emitting good energy onto others and I can’t wait to learn more from this team!

Sophia Tang

Hi, my name is Sophia Tang (she/her), and I’m currently a grade 10 student residing in Ottawa, Ontario. I’m still in the process of figuring out a career path that I’m passionate about; however, one thing I’m sure about is my love for creating and admiring art. I enjoy most of my free time on my bed, sketching on my iPad, while a K-drama plays in the background. Nothing inspires me more than meaningful and eye-catching graphics; therefore, I’m excited to give back and create art that inspires and resonates with others while advocating important social issues happening around the world alongside the JFS team.
