I was born in Lima, Perú. I immigrated to the United States at the age of seven. My family and I didn’t speak English. Nor did we have any money, relatives, or education! My life was awesome!
I became a U.S. citizen on July 29th, 2013. In my culture, food is the language of love and music is a language of life. I wanted to be a theoretical physicist after watching a pop-sci video and digging through Wikipedia articles. I studied applied math in college—specifically, analysis. I went to Montana to learn from Dr. Bharath Sriraman. My current supervisor is Dr. Sylvia Hurtado.
I am an advocate of poetry writing, reading, the people-dimension of musicality, and baking for others. There is no greater joy than experiencing the present. Admonishing that these trees smell like cedar and amber and these birds—which come from somewhere—tell stories of the world, its histories—what better way is there to live?
Some words ring. Some words sing. Some words float like leaves on a beach. Here are words I've been recanting over the years.
