#30SquareChallenge2023, number seventeen. Leaving the paint kit at home in its entirety, we traveled across state for a couple of days in search of quiet, solitude, and hiking trails. As my legs can attest, excellent trails were located. A few days ago I found myself wandering for miles just adjacent to a clear, cold stream. The trail crossed the water a few miles on and I paused midway through my ford to enjoy the dense schools of fingerlings darting around in the water. Eventually the trail turned away from the stream. We found ourselves marching upwards, tracing limestone bluffs, through woods of oak and other various hardwoods, ultimately emerging into a meadow near at the top of the final incline.

I am running Solidworks 2022, and I suddenly noticed some new behavior, and I'm wondering if my selection filters got changed and I'm not sure how to fix it. Previously when selecting contours from a sketch to extrude, I could select full contours. Now the edges of bodies I am sketching on are having an effect on what I select. How can I fix this?

I draw and consume a lot of digital media (fanart, anime, video games, TV, etc). This has been the case since I was 5. However it is really hard for me to draw full compositions with fleshed out backgrounds, multiple people and even coloring is hard for me. I much prefer sketching people and objects. In fact sketching is all I've been doing for the past 1 or 2 years because I can't push myself to do anything else. Every time I try to paint something I'm never satisfied with it and moreover I usually don't have the patience. The most I can ever do and be satisfied with is sketch something then color over it.

Before you start a sketch consider how you are going to use colour and be consistent with it. Typically my main sketch is in black pen, I use a red pen for linking arrows and then a reserve a colour for the title and notes and then a different colour for questions.

If I am adding my sketches to a deck I always use photoshop to clean them up a bit. Sometimes scanning can add little marks that look messy and also occasionally I add colour to key buttons to lift them.

We find sketching can be an incredible 'unblocker' when it comes to designing a complicated system or service, as well as getting stakeholder buy-in. We'd love to hear how you use sketching on Twitter.

This was just out of curiosity but does anyone ussually draw a sketch on regular paper and scan it in to do refinements and color. Or do you actually just sketch the drawing in a program like photoshop or painter(or some other program) then just color it in and refine it? Now I know some people might do both. If so just put like a quick percent of how many times you do either technique.

i rarely draw and color on paper since computer became the substitute for it. for me it just prolong the time to finish the artwork when doing it on paper and editing, modifying in pc. doing it all on right on the pc is faster and able to accomplish more.

Ive been sketching and drawing on alias sketchbook pro since it came out and then use that to paint on painter or color in illustrator (depends on the project).

But all sketches are done in Alias SKBP.

I would love to be able to add a block and draw out concepts. I need them as I make whiteboard explainer videos for my students regularly. Currently I use the concepts app, and/nebo, and/or whiteboard softwares to do this. It would be great if I could just add a block (like I can in nebo) and do the planning for the sketches in anytype, along with the lesson plans. I am also open to integration with concepts app.

How do i model a tube (left arm only) in two trajectories in one pass? i got the left arm rotated in one direction (see 1st pic) but i also need to be rotated in another direction like in pic 2 which i dont have. I had to split it in two sketches. I am sure there is a better way to model this. Any tips?

If I understand you correctly, Joseph, this is not difficult. You just need a single trajectory that is not all in the same plane. You can get all kinds of complex shapes using compound 3D curves. Just sketch the 2D for the whole path from one perspective (don't agonize about the sketch plane). Then sketch the appropriate view on another plane at 90 degrees to the first. Cntrl select both sketches and select Edit/Intersect to get the compound trajectory.

Another way you can do this is establish both of your straight centerlines of the tube with curves. Either simply sketched on planes or use the intersected method as shown by BH 001 above. Once you have both of these curves completed you then want to make a curve through points. Click on the two end points of the curves. A straight line will form between the two points. Next click the options tab before finishing the curve, select tangent for end controls and select the centerlines/curves to set your tangencies. You will end up with something that looks like this. You can also go in and tweak this curve by pulling on some control points to further shape this curve.

If you are ok making multiple sketches and really want only a single sweep in the end, then all you have to do is shift-select the rest of the chain. It does not have to be a chain created in a single sketch.

on the Windows shapr3d i am putting a simple groove in a existing body cylinder it seems to me that i should be able to just sketch a rectangle on a plane that is at the center of the cylinder and just revolve the sketch and have the option to either cut away from the cylinder body or make the revolve a new body. but it only lets me create a new body and then i have to do a subtract to cut the groove away is this correct or am i missing something. Subtracting works but it is just another step i need to do. I come from using a parametric cad program for at least 25 years so may i am just familiar with those types of programs.

I just think a lot of times when you are trying to get a project done it is all about getting it done quick so it would be nice if the option to either cut away or create a new body would be in the commands that would apply just to save time on having to create another step to get the design done.

Thanks for sharing. I remember in one of my drawing classes (many, many years ago) about the color and shadows. I think we referred to these two as positive and negative shapes.

Your post just reminded me of this. I think your drawings you have used are wonderful and I hope you find lots of success in your classes.

WHO

Just sketch is a sketch merchandise brand that turns sketches of architecture and objects into artistic, unique and functional momentos, co-founded by Ohm Chongthanatrakol who loves sketching and Tai Sanguanpong who transforms the sketches into tangible works of art.

WHERE

Just Sketch is based in Singapore. Our products are available online at www.just-sketch.com and offline, at Analogue and YIM hostels in Bangkok. Products will also soon be available at Naiise shops in Singapore.

WHY

Just Sketch was founded by Ohm who is the main artist. Sketching architecture is a way of communication and expression allowing for one to memorize and record our fast-changing environment. Whenever Ohm visits iconic and historical places, he will not miss a chance to sketch. Sketching helps him remember places precisely, including the atmosphere and people of that time. He is happy every time he takes a pen and starts sketching and would like to share his works with art lovers while capturing these good memories.

I paint oils over acrylic. I first sketch the painting in shades of gray acrylic. I usually confine myself to 8 shades. Then I will paint all the features of the painting in complimentary tones using acrylic. Then I do the oils over the complimentary acrylics. I never lay a pencil to a canvas.

Why not do your drawing as usual, then go over your lines with thinned paint on a liner brush? That would be a good transition from what you are now doing. Eventually, you may feel comfortable enough with the brush to just use it and skip the pencil.

lol

Belive this or not i actually almost always use pencil for my underpainting and yes there is a way that it dosnt show through i just simply draw whatever i am going to paint on the canvas then i get a can of spray varnish let it dry and go to work simple as that:D

I agree with Artman. When I first started taking lessons in oils 30+ years ago, my teacher taught me to use a graphite pencil to sketch on the canvas. After getting the form down to whatever degree I felt comfortable with, we sprayed the canvas with a clear Krylon spray. I have paintings that are 30+ years old that do not have any ill effects from this.

There may be a better way of doing it today but that still works.

Jerry:D

i am with reye also graphite works just fine no problems,it would be a problem if you didnt use spray varnish though, belive it or not the spray on the canvas gives it a better surface to paint on i think.plus using pencil you wont have to use as much oils for your underpainting:D

Another, even more telling example is the large Shepherdess woodcut by Millet which you showed me last year, and which has remained in my memory. Also, for example, the pen sketches by Ostade and Peasant Bruegel.

The first thing you need to create is the rail profile. Start with the correct template, Profile-Rail.rft from the family templates. Create your shape and label parameters. I made mine to be Type parameters so that they are easily manipulated by just editing the profile type from the Browser. ff782bc1db
