Welcome to our digital history project for rock and roll class! This website is dedicated to analyzing the impact of the first Just Dance game and how the songs were used to market towards specific audiences. Join us in exploring the historical significance and cultural influence of these iconic tunes.
About the Project
We will be performing an analysis of Just Dance a popular game released in 2009. This game experienced significant popularity through the use of music that successfully targeted a span of generations. We are looking to take a dive into the selected music and choreography of select songs to identify how the game produced their multigenerational appeal. We will also follow up on how Just Dance has managed to stay relevant today. The songs were selected by splitting them into three groups based on when the music charted. Individual songs were pulled based off either continued popularity, ability to bridge generations, or songs that showed Just Dance's disconnect between lyrical meaning and dances to make the songs child friendly. This project was worked on from September to November of 2024.
We approached this goal through selecting three representative songs from each generation the game successfully targeted. After selecting our songs, we performed an analysis of the song’s time period of popularity. Our analysis included identifying when the song charted, how that song managed to reach one or more generations, the lyrical meanings behind the song, and how the choreography might or might not relate to the intended meaning of the song.
