Indoraptor raptor was a hybrid species of dinosaur created by Dr. Henry Wu in the basement lab of Lockwood Manor, located in Orick, California, USA, consisting of genetic material of Indominus rex with more genetic material of Deinonychus.
Indoraptor shares with Indominus rex the characteristic four-fingered hands used for walking, including a slightly opposable first clawed digit and three main bearing digits, with the second and third digit having claws while the fourth digit lacks a claw. Its blocky head is vaguely reminiscent of that of Tyrannosaurus rex or of those of the many abelisaurids whose genetic material this creature accomodates; in its youth, the Indoraptor sported a reddish sprinkled mark around the eye orbits, which seems to disappear with age.
Shortly after the collapse of Jurassic World, in 2015, accelerated evacuation of Isla Nublar was occurying, but Dr. Henry Wu would later return to the island to retrieve important information in his laptop, including a sample of Indominus rex DNA, all to begin his Indoraptor project. Dr. Henry Wu has been reprimanded due to his hybrid creations being often dangerous and lacking empathy for their victims, inspiring him to perfect his new design. Indoraptor was created with the intention of attacking on command and for being trained for combat, a predecessor of posterior and more successful attempts done in later years with Australovenator in the early 2020s. Dr. Henry Wu still considered the Indoraptor an early prototype, as it still lacked the abbility to follow orders other than those conditioned by visual and audio cues, and remained incapable of performing acts of empathy towards its trainer, unlike Deinonychus. In 2018, Indoraptor was presented in public at an illegal auction in Lockwood Manor, intended to sell rescued dinosaurs from Isla Nublar to the highest bidder; he was demonstrated to respond to a special weapon that pointed a laser red dot to a specified target that the hybrid would be programmed to attack after an audio cue. Russian mobster Anton Orlov won the bid for Indoraptor. After the auction was interrupted by a rampaging Pachycephalosaurus spinifer, mercenary Ken Wheatley sedated the Indoraptor and entered his cage to try to take one of its teeth for his collection. The Indoraptor was, however, only faking to be asleep, and proceeded to kill Wheatley, escaping from the cage and then later going after a quartet of other people that were hiding on an elevator. The Indoraptor, for a second, was incapable of getting to them as the elevator doors closed before the hybrid could catch them, but the doors opened again, and the hybrid mauled all of the humans inside. Later, the Indoraptor killed two of Eli Mills' guards. Later the hybrid pursued Claire Dearing, Owen Grady and Maisie Lockwood across the manor's diorama, injuring Claire in the process. Maisie hid in her bedroom, and before the Indoraptor could snatch her, Owen Grady tried to take down the hybrid with a gun he stole from a mercenary. Later, after a skirmish between the Indoraptor and the female Deinonychus Blue, Maisie and Owen climb the glass roof to escape the hybrid, but Claire uses the weapon the Indoraptor was programmed to respond. Claire points the laser to Owen, prompting the Indoraptor to jump at him, causing the glass roof to collapse, but it was only with Blue that the Indoraptor completely fell down, being fatally impaled by a ceratopsian skull replica.
FILM vs. REALITY
In reality, Indoraptor was not a real animal, with the hybrid being a completely fictional animal from this film franchise. However, all of its genetic material hails from real animals, both modern and extinct. In terms of anatomy, the Indoraptor from the film seems to draw its appearance mostly, or entirely, from extinct Mesozoic animals, those being Deinosuchus, Giganotosaurus, Tyrannosaurus rex, Therizinosaurus, Velociraptor, Rugops, Majungasaurus, Carnotaurus, Quilmesaurus, Pycnonemosaurus and Viavenator. The exposed teeth and lack of fleshy lips is consistent with Deinosuchus, as well as its quadrupedal gait, thick skin and presence of osteoderms in its back. Traits from Giganotosaurus can be identified by its skull shape vaguely resembling that of a typical allosauroid. Tyrannosaurus rex traits can be identified by its relative robustness, especially in the skull. Therizinosaurus traits can be identified by the presence of large arms with enormous claws. Its high intelligence, sickle claws and its feathery integument can be identified from Velociraptor. Abelisaurid traits, coming from Rugops, Majungasaurus, Carnotaurus, Quilmesaurus, Pycnonemosaurus and Viavenator, can be identified by its long legs (in the case of carnotaurine abelisaurids), flexible tail, and a roughly rounder and wider skull shape, as well as a wide mouth gape. However, some traits that the Indoraptor has can't realistically be traced to the animals that compose its genetic material. For example, hands capable of advanced pronation, like the one shown in the movie, is unknown from any of these genera. Additionally the hands of Indoraptor contain a dramatically opposable thumb, which is unknown in any of these animals, and the presence of a clawed fourth finger is also not known from any of these organisms. Its nostrils are also depicted with a tear-like shape with mobile muscular lining, which is more in line with therian mammal nostrils than reptilian ones. The spine of Indoraptor also is very arched, which resembles mammalian spines and less so the more stiffened torsos of dinosaurs.
Because of this, a more accurate Indoraptor would look slightly different if it actually existed. Firstly, however, it has to be noted that the way Giganotosaurus, Therizinosaurus and Velociraptor are depicted in the franchise is inconsistent with their real life counterparts, therefore one should consider replacing them with other dinosaurs that most reflect their appearance and behavior in the films (for this case, Tyrannosaurus vannus, Iguanacolossus and Deinonychus represent substitutes to these). The hands retain three large clawed fingers, but the fourth finger would be clawless, as that's a general trait for all archosaurs. The hands should not pronate or flex quite as much as in the film, but the fingers could probably still flex somewhat. The nostrils are corrected to have a circular shape and lacking muscular lining. The tooth arrangement is also slightly corrected to be more natural. A dual row of flattened osteoderms are present along the back of Indoraptor, a trait not seen in Indominus rex, which also applies to the more flexible spine. Because Indoraptor is meant to be a slight approximation to Deinonychus, in relation to Indominus rex, the addition of these traits would be inconsistent with that, so a naked back (barring the smaller rows of outer protruding osteoderms, present in Indominus rex) and a more stiffened back is more coherent with Deinonychus.
