Bio

Junsik Kim, Ph.D., is an Assistant Professor (Tenure-Track) in the Department of Ecological Landscape Architecture Design at Kangwon National University. His work explores the intersections of urban sustainability and resilience through landscape and urban planning, with a specific focus on streetscape and urban vitality, climate risk and vulnerability, green and climate gentrification, and housing and health justice. He previously worked as a Postdoctoral Scholar at the Terner Center for Housing Innovation, the University of California, Berkeley. Prior to that, he served as a Consultant and Research Assistant at the Metropolitan Research Center (MRC), the University of Utah, a Researcher at the National Institute of Biological Resources (NIBR) under South Korea’s Ministry of Environment, and a Researcher at the Research Institute of Agriculture and Life Sciences, Seoul National University. He holds a PhD in Metropolitan Planning, Policy, and Design from the University of Utah under the guidance of Dr. Reid Ewing, Distinguished Professor of City & Metropolitan Planning. He earned his Master’s degree in Landscape Architecture from Seoul National University under the supervision of Dr. Dongkun Lee, and his Bachelor’s degree in Landscape Architecture from Kyungpook National University. His dissertation, titled 'Towards Climate and Health Justice: Focusing on Climate Gentrification, Urban Morphology, and Climate Policy,' explores the causes and complex relationships among environmental, climate, and health inequities, seeking solutions to mitigate disparities in climate risk and public health through a focus on green/climate gentrification, building morphology, and policy implementation.
