I am an undergraduate research intern at Cognitive Learning for Vision And Robotics Lab at KAIST, under Prof. Joseph Lim.
I currently pursuing my bachelor's degree in Naval Architecture and Ocean Engineering at Seoul National University.

Research Interests
Autonomous Fabrication
Multi-Agent Collaboration
Space exploration has been my Number one Interest since childhood.
I believe humanity must go out to the stars because
Exploration is ingrained in our DNA
I believe without expansion, humanity is bound to implode.
living confined to a rock eventually getting extinct, is a miserable way to exist as a species.
Constant Growth is an achievable goal, If you just look towards the stars.
It is very cool.
Might be because of the first reason but I digress.
Many things in Science Fiction can be realized, even under limits of current science.
Step 1. Colonization of the Solar System
Settlements all across the Solar System. On the Moon, Mars, Asteroid Belt, Jovian System, and beyond
Step 2. Large Space Habitats
Millions of Space stations Kilometers Wide, Each Housing Millions of People.
Combined, more people would live in space than on Earth.
Let's keep Earth's biosphere safe, while we go pollute some desolate rocks.
Step 3. Dyson Swarms
This is a collection of satellites that surround and collect a significant percentage of a star's energy.
This would completely solve Humanity's Energy problem, at least for a while.
We can make unbelievable amounts of energy, turning production and utilization of Antimatter feasible.
The light from the star can be focused into a beam, used to propel spaceships close to light speed.
The "s" on "Dyson Swarms" is definitely not a mistake.
Step 4. Interstellar Spaceships:
Enormous Antimatter-Driven Starships that accelerate to relativistic speeds, carrying humans to other stars.
With time dilation, we don't even need Faster Than Light Travel.
Lets make the Venturestar from AVATAR into reality. (Importantly, skip massacring the Natives part this time)
Step 5+. Human Society all across the universe
We sure ain't gonna stop here.
Lets send humans to other star systems one by one, eventually leading to a Human civilization all across Milky Way and beyond.
Of course, even the first step would take an enormous amount of resources and manpower, in scale unheard of throughout history. Building a medium-sized space habitat of ~300 meters in Low Earth Orbit would take around 50,000 Tons of materials, which is around 1000 Space X Starship Launches. Construction would probably take around thousands of workers working tirelessly for years. This is of course doable, but we aren't talking about just one or two medium-sized habitats.
For real space colonization, we must turn to robots.
The cool thing about robots, is that they can scale. You can not make more humans right away, but if you enable robots to build what builds robots, you can scale exponentially. Robots would be essential for all aspects of space colonization such as,
Resource Gathering
Billions of Mining Robots can gather enormous amounts of resources all across the solar system.
Let's Mine Mercury to the core for metals, and the asteroid belt for water.
Construction
A lot of construction is needed to get a space based economy running!
We have to turn those raw resources into usable materials. Autonomous Construction Robots can be used to build large refineries and chemical plants.
Then, we can use those materials to build more robots. Building highly automated factories that make other robots would enable us to scale-up exponentially.
Construction robots should then be able to build millions of Huge Space Habitats and Spaceships using the resource gathered.
However, current robotics technologies have yet to enable this.
Even though much advancements have been made, fully automating Autonomous Fabrication, Resource Gathering, and Construction would take a lot of effort.
Hardest challenge would be getting robots to be able to build robot production/maintenance facilities.
Something as complex as a robot would require thousands of individual components.
Each component has to be made in a specific way, but can we do this on-site?
Super advanced 3D printing technology may be able to make Circuit boards on-site.
Constructing Huge structures only from the blueprints would be a quite challenging task.
Programming every actions into construction robots is infeasible, as every part in a structure is distinct from others.
Construction robots would have to able to generalize tasks and adapt to various surroundings.
They should also be able to recover from mistakes, and correct them by themselves.
My goal is to enable space colonization en masse via advancing robotics technologies.
The fields I'm currently interested in are,
Autonomous Fabrication & Construction
Robots able to build huge things is a technology that can be applied on Earth too.
Building a structure without specific programming, and only from blueprints needs very adaptable robots.
Multi-Agent Collaboration
Building Huge stuff can't be done alone! To build huge things in a reasonable timeframe, robots have to work together effectively.
Some Sub interests are,
Autonomous Farming
Farming is a very labor-intensive industry, with lots of manual labor to automate.
Making food is also important in space, and space farmers could use some robotic helpers!
Autonomous Resource Gathering
There are some automated mining companies out there, but resource gathering without human supervision would need more work.
