After upgrade to 16.04, the Java applet that is supposed to establish the VPN connection does not even start. I do not get any prompt to run the applet (as I used to): the page just says "Please click the START button ONLY if reconnection is required. " and there is no start button anywhere.

In my current project, we have been using Juniper Network Connect to connect to client's VPN. It's a web based VPN authentication that uses Juniper Network Connect to establish connection. I don't know any more technicalities.

Everything used to work as long as I was on Windows 7 and Windows 8.1. I have upgraded to Windows 10 today and since then the VPN stopped connecting. Earlier, after providing the username/password a small pop used to flash and go (saying Launching Network Connect) and established connection. But now after upgrading to Windows 10, the page throws me back to the login page even after giving the right username/password. No pop shows up. I have tried all Chrome, Firefox, IE. I used IE 11 earlier on Windows 8.1 and it worked fine. But nothing helps now.

I spoke to the support team of the client I work for and the issue turned out to be with the System time set on my machine. It was set to China timezone by default and I didn't notice that. After I changed the time to US the Juniper connect worked fine and my VPN now works fine.

I'm facing connection issues with Juniper Network connect 6.3 to connect to our University Linux server. I'm unable to connect to the server, I assume there might be some issues with Network Connect application because I'm able to connect from other machines. After entering my credentials, the status in the session menu shows reconnecting and never gets connected.

I'm trying to install the Juniper Network Connect client on Ubuntu -- I'm wondering if any seasoned network admins or otherwise knowledgeable individuals know if it's possible for me to download the client directly from a 3rd party source, or if it is mandatory that I download it from the given network's vpn website. If the latter, can you explain why?

In any case, once you have installed the Network Connect application, it can connect to different SSL VPN gateways (however I don't know if it has to be the same model of Juniper device on the other end).

More to the point of answering your question, Juniper wants you to get it directly from whatever system(s) you're connecting to. That way there is no confusing the correct version needed. It is not available 3rd party or from non-admin download from Juniper. Their licensing is all back-end and based on concurrent sessions. In fact, network connect was licensed separately on top of this, but I digress. Having the software is legal but you can't use it with anything else. They provide the clients in their appliance build releases and only the necessary version is included with the build. Therefore, it automatically downloads when trying to login. System admins have the ability to extract the software from the appliance and publish it. This is what I used to do. I put it up on our company's external login page, in the case that the auto-installer was blocked by the user's computer. Users could manually down and install it if they wanted to. We did have a few people who needed to login to other juniper instances not controlled by me, and their different versions of the network connect software coexisted just fine.

Recently my laptop decided it no longer wanted to start. While it was in the Genius Bar, I dug up an old Macbook Pro (called MBP throughout the rest of this post) and began to configure it so I could use it for work. Configuring a different laptop gave me the opportunity to try out some new/updated applications and see if I could find more ways to be productive (I will cover this in a future post). In addition, it brought up some old issues I had experienced and gave me a chance to fix them and document them. In this post, I would like to talk about the problems I experienced attempting to connect to a Juniper Network Connect (called JNC throughout the rest of this post) VPN and how I was able to get it resolved.

Now you might be wondering why I do not just download the JNC fat client and connect to my VPN that way. While this works, I use a single sign-on (SSO) solution, which allows me to authenticate once in my web browser and then be able to access everything that I need. Using the fat client would require me to authenticate twice. Now technically I have this problem anyway as I need to use Firefox and Chrome, but I was considering moving back to Firefox for a while, but eventually decided against this.

thank you so much. i just bought a new macbook pro and was trying to connect to work using juniper network and encountered the same problem as you did. i changed the safari settings like you suggested and it worked. thanks again.

However, each time I log into my corporate network through Mozilla Firefox and attempt to establish a remote desktop connection the following message appears as Network Connect attempts to load, "An error occurred while extracting one of the Network Connect components."

Can you tell me where/how to download the Network Connect client? My client uses it for Windows but doesn't have Mac clients. The Juniper website (juniper.net) makes no mention of it and I'm loath to download it from a 3rd party site. Or doesn't it work that way?

The more common way is to also use a web address again accessing your Juniper appliance which then runs a Java applet which automates checking for whether Network Connect is already installed, whether it is the right version and if either is not true downloading and installing Network Connect for you. This all sounds fine and dandy and a clever solution but has one huge flaw - IT REQUIRES ENABLING JAVA IN YOUR WEB-BROWSER. This is by far the most likely means of also exposing your computer to malware. The irony of a security product requiring Java web applet support is staggering. (This is by no means solely a Juniper issue.) A lot of network administrator chose to only enable this method because it also installs the settings as well client software and they sadly appear oblivious to all the Java related issues. (Shudder ?.)

Here is documentation of a working setup as of Oct 2013 on a target network that requires login via a web page, and they have multiple pages on the portal for different groups, client version 7.1. The vpn client would not start automatically, or complete when manually invoked using ncsvc.

Login through web portal, attmpt to intiate network connect.Software downloads and installs into ~/.juniper_network/network_connect/examine the cookies for the site and find DSID. This will have to be refreshed each time.

I'm writing this section to explain how I connect to Juniper Network Connect in a more succinct and consolidated manner. Recent versions of Google Chrome block the Java plugin, so it requires a different approach. This method does not use Java and is, personally, a better way.

Patching the ncsvc binary can disable the route monitoring function, allowing one to change routes as needed manually or by script. Without patching, a route monitor may be in place that will disconnect if routes are changed.

Consider ncsvc gave original default gw has a higher metric, added a second default with a lower metirc, and target vpn resources are on 10.0.0.0 and 170.0.0.0, and a tun0 ip of 10.15.15.15 (besides principal resources, check the vpn network's dns servers etc)

I installed Junos 18.3R3.4 on an EX2300 switch. I also updated JWeb to 18.2A1. The switch passes traffic without issue. The problem is that after a week or two the switch itself cannot be contacted. JWeb doesn't work. SSH doesn't work. I cannot ping the switch's IP address. But devices connected to the switch are still communicating to the rest of the network fine. ff782bc1db
