1. Development of anti-fibrotic agents for inflammatory bowel disease or other gastrointestinal disease
The central theme of my doctoral, postdoctoral, and professorial research has been the investigation of intestinal fibrosis associated with gastrointestinal diseases, particularly inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). My work has focused on elucidating the cellular and molecular mechanisms underlying fibrosis and on developing novel anti-fibrotic therapeutic agents targeting epithelial–mesenchymal transition and activated myofibroblasts.
2. Development of therapeutics using umbilical cord- or placenta-derived mesenchymal stem cells for gastrointestinal fibrosis
I have conducted research on the development of anti-fibrotic therapies targeting gastrointestinal fibrosis using mesenchymal stem cells derived from human umbilical cord or placenta tissues.
3. Therapeutic strategies for inflammatory bowel disease and other chronic, intractable enteritis
My work has focused on exploring novel treatment approaches for inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) and other forms of refractory chronic enteritis, with an emphasis on immune modulation and mucosal healing.
4. Identification of risk factors and development of diagnostic and therapeutic strategies for gastric and colorectal neoplasms
I have contributed to research identifying epidemiologic risk factors, as well as advancing diagnostic and therapeutic methods for gastric and colorectal tumors.
5. Epidemiological investigations of outbreaks of foodborne illness and infectious enteritis
I have participated in epidemiological studies investigating the causes and transmission patterns of foodborne disease outbreaks and various types of infectious enteritis, with the goal of informing public health interventions.
