Low Code Design Environment of Interactive EV Cluster
Low Code Design Environment of Interactive EV Cluster
Designing HMI demo interactively using Principle
It all started from a question when I was working as an HMI designer:
How can we animate and preview the cluster design in a fast amd interactive way?
So that designers can get a quick preview and focus more on design iteration.
The concentional HMI design of cluster starts with static graphical design, where designers draw visual elements of the cluster and try to first achieve visual aesthetic, and then move on to animation. This approach leads to two issues:
1. The ignorance of motion design. Cluster is filled with moving objects, for example, revolving needles, the rolling ADAS, or switching tabs. Usually the animation is visioned by designer first using static design, then created separately. Given the current tools, designers cannot start with animating with an easy cost of time and effort, not to mention exploring other alternative designs that are optimized according to animation. The demo usually turns out to be a narrated animation, a video.
2. The lack of interaction when reviewing demo. Being not interactive, the narrated animation cannot cover all the possible visual combinations and often leads to complementary oral description, leaving the demo not fullfiled its purpose. An interactive demo will assumably be well self-explanatory.
The ultimate goal is to create an environment or tool that helps HMI designers create and preview a simple interactive animation at an early stage, with a low cost, hence focusing more on design alternatives and iteration.
And following is an example of such interactive preview interface.
