I am an adjunct faculty member in the Department of Sociology and Anthropology at George Mason University, specializing in democracy, social movements, mass protests, protest policing, and emotion.
I am currently pursuing 3 lines of work:
The first line of research investigates repression and its outcome, with particular emphasis on (1) the protesters' perception of and response to police and (2) citizens' engagement in repression.
The second line of research focuses on the development of emotions in social movements, their status in specific contentious events, and their impacts on internal boundary-drawing.
The third project examines how practices of discipline contribute to the continuation of nonviolent mass protests and marginalization within these contentious events.
