FairEntry is the system the Boulder County Fair uses to allow people to sign up to show at their fair.
The Boulder County Fair is an exciting and popular exhibit opportunity provided to all 4-H members by the Boulder County Fair Board. However, it is not a requirement. Our 4-H members will use FairEntry to sign up to show their projects at the fair. If you need help or have questions book a time to speak with Jeannie, she will be able to walk you through it or answer questions. Here is a tip sheet that will help walk you through FairEntry.
Remember to review the Livestock and General Project Fairbooks online as we enter fair entry time. All participating members will be held accountable for the rules and guidelines published in the fairbook.

FOODS AND NUTRITION TIPS
June 14th is National Strawberry Shortcake Day which is a great excuse to eat this delicious and nutritious fruit. Did you know that blueberries, raspberries, strawberries, and other berries are lower in sugar than most other fruits? Now if you eat them in ice cream it's not a healthy snack, but there are lots of healthier alternatives. Add berries to oatmeal, yogurt, cottage cheese, or cereal for breakfast or a snack. In the summer when they are fresh, I love to add them to salads. There are also a lot of ways to turn them into fantastic Food and Nutrition projects: use protein and fiber-rich ingredients like whole wheat flour and oats/oatmeal to make the below-linked recipes healthier!
Drop Cookies - In any recipe you can add raisins or currents to you can add freeze-dried or traditionally dried berries. A recipe that uses chopped fresh strawberries needs to be tested to ensure that the water content of the strawberries won't be too much for the cookie to set and rise. Try Strawberry Cookies- Just 4 Ingredients! - The Big Man's World ® (thebigmansworld.com)
Bar Cookies - Rich peanut butter bars topped with a layer of strawberry jam and fresh strawberries (Our 19 Best Potluck Desserts to Feed a Crowd (bhg.com)) are a healthy snack due to the protein-rich peanut butter.
Scones - Incorporate berries into your favorite scone recipe (get a recipe example from BHG - 10 Scone Recipes That Will Be the Star of Your Brunch Spread (bhg.com)
Breads - Yeast or quick bread can be made into delicious biscuits to create traditional strawberry shortcakes or lovely parfait deserts
Pies - strawberry pie is a simple crowd-pleaser. You can make something novel by making strawberry meringue, strawberry rhubarb, or strawberry truffle pies ([strawberry pie] Results from Better Homes & Gardens (bhg.com))
Most of the above recipes can be found on the Better Homes and Gardens website.

Different study guides have been developed for each 4-H age group (Junior, Intermediate, and Senior). Get ahead of the game and start reading and reviewing the material in your Dog Resource Handbook. Happy studying!
Four by Four Dog Club Spring Service Project
Last month, the Four by Four 4-H Dog Club hosted a Dog Parade for the elder residents at Hover Green House Assisted Living in Longmont. Club members paraded their pups around the courtyard, introduced their dogs to the residents, and showed off a few dog tricks! To wrap up the day, club members drew beautiful spring chalk drawings on the sidewalk for residents to enjoy. A fun day was had by all.
Upcoming Events:
Fun Matches
It’s 4-H Dog Show season and there are a few Fun Matches coming up in June. Please consider registering for the Larimer County Fun Match on June 17th and the Boulder County Fun Match on June 24th. Flyers are attached with registration information. Hope to see you there!

Thank you to everyone who helped with our market goat and sheet tag in event!! We could not have done it without the great volunteers and staff!
ANIMAL CARE AND HOUSING FORMS
Animal Care and Houseing forms are now completed in 4-H Online; members must only submit a hard copy of the Animal Care and Housing form by the designated ownership date ONLY if they WILL NOT be housing the animals at the address listed in 4-H online. The hard copy forms must have all appropriate signatures.
If at any point in the year, a member houses their animals at a different address than listed in their 4-H online profile, they must submit another signed animal care and housing form to the Extension Office. Animal care and housing forms can be found at: Boulder County 4-H Enrollment Page
POULTRY
I am very excited to announce we will be having our poultry show at the Boulder County Fair!
After working with the 4-H Office, Fair Staff, and the recommendations from the CSU Vets, we feel we can hold a poultry show at the Boulder County Fair this year! The only way we can do this safely is if you as exhibitors monitor your flocks for disease and do not bring anything to the fair if you have any illness at all. It is also important that you practice good biosecurity before and after the show. Please plan ahead to have a place to quarantine your birds after coming to the fair. We are also shortening the time the poultry will be at the fairgrounds. See the attached guidelines to help you remember a few of the important steps!
But overall it is good news! We will have a show! We have a few changes to the schedule as we will be running in fewer amount of days, so please look at the below poultry times/days. We have removed all fun classes with the exception of the Photo contest and Egg Judging at this time to be able to fit everything into four days. Please see Poultry fair book to get details on those entry requirements. At this time no additional testing or quarantine will be required, but we will have a release form you will need to sign to participate. Please remember to keep practicing good biosecurity!
Thursday:
• Poultry & Market Check-In (CSU Vet Check & Record Book Check) August 10th 7-9am Barn A

• Poultry Awards August 11th 4:00pm Exhibit Building
Saturday:
• Optional Poultry Check-Out August 12th, 8:00 am-9:00 am (This will be for those who are not attending Round Robin, selling at the Poultry Sale, or attending Market Sale. Please talk with Breanna or me if you want to check out at this time. This does not release you from helping with the breakdown of cages and cleaning the barn on Sunday at 4:00 pm, this just gives you the option to take home earlier if you want less exposure for your birds.)
• Poultry Sale August 12th, 4-6:00 pm Barn A (this is an opportunity for you to sell your birds to the public- not required)
Sunday:
• Market Sale August 13th (There are a variety of events for the sale that day, so those in Market Projects please prepare to be available all day.)
• Poultry Barn Check-Out and Clean-Up August 13th, 4:00 pm (This requires everyone's help in getting this done in a timely manner, therefore I require everyone to be in attendance.)
Monday:
• Poultry Processing Appointment on August 14th (Sometime in the Morning)
Please let me know if you have any questions.
