2025 INTERVIEW JUDGING: TEEN CLERKS NEEDED
Interview Judging: Thursday, July 31, 2025, at the Exhibit Building.
WANTED - Teen Clerks!
Looking for an opportunity to help at the Boulder County Fair? Consider being a Teen Clerk on Interview Judging Day! No experience necessary!
Throughout the day, 4-H members will be bringing their projects to the Exhibit Building on the Fairgrounds. We need Teen Clerks – ages 13 and up – to help make the event run smoothly.
Teen clerk responsibilities are:
Attend Interview Judging all day (9:00 AM- 5:00 PM or until your project area has completed assigning awards)
Act as assistant to the Superintendent
Check-in members projects
Help arrange the judged projects in their proper display area at the conclusion of judging.
Confirm ribbons are accurate and attached.
Be helpful, courteous and inviting as participants await their interviews.
Lunch and snacks will be provided. Teen clerks will have time to interview for their own projects. Scheduling time will be between the Superintendent and the clerk.
Serving as a Teen Clerk qualifies as a 4-H community service activity and is a great way to help the organization. Time spent as Teen Clerk counts toward National Honor Society community service.
There are plenty of project areas in need of a teen clerk. If you are interested, please send an email to Jeannie Torres, jetorres@bouldercounty.gov. Being a Teen Clerk is a fun way to kick off the Boulder County Fair activities!

RECORD BOOKS
Reminder: Record Books Must Be Up-to-Date Before Fair
As we get ready for the Boulder County Fair, it’s important that all 4-H members showing animals have their record books up-to-date. This is a required step to participate in the fair.
Here’s what you need to know:
Your club leader will check your animal record book to make sure it’s current and complete before the fair.
You must use the green 4-H clasp folder for your record book. (Or similar type folder.) Please do not use 3-ring binders.
If your record book is not up-to-date and approved, you will not be allowed to show your animal at the fair.
Helpful Tools:
Record Book Score Sheets
These are official judging tools provided by Colorado 4-H. They’ll be used to evaluate record books for livestock, horse, dog, and general projects.
Up-to-Date Animal Record Book Checklist
This checklist is a great way to double-check your record book before fair. It’s meant to help members, parents, and leaders make sure everything is ready. Note: This checklist is just a guide and not the same as the score sheets used for judging.
RECORD BOOK HELP SESSIONS:
June 24th 6-8PM - Upstairs Clover Club room (Signup Here)
June 30th 3-5PM - Extension Office Meeting Room, Natural Resource Building (Signup Here)

LIVESTOCK FAIRBOOK RULES UPDATE
The Boulder County Fair Superintendents and staff have worked to adjust the rules to make our program and shows the best they can be. We hope these changes increase understanding and participation in our program to the fullest of our members and their animals. Please read the fair book for the most recent rules for showing at the Boulder County Fair with your 4-H Projects. Some key things to take note of some updates for your project planning:
Horse- updated schedule and requirements for classes with the new horse levels program
Livestock- New Early Release of Animals Sunday morning.
Goats- New Rule on kid goat ownership deadlines extended. Members do not need to own the dam of goats born after April 24th. However, they must have identified other goats as project animals before April 24th. Members will have until July 7th to identify kid goats born after April 24th. Members may purchase new kid goats(born after April 24th) until July 7th.
Breeding Beef- Aged Heifer class added for older heifers.
Market Beef- Minimum Rate of gain is now 1.0lbs/day
Dairy Cattle- Freemartin heifers now allowed in the Market dairy program.
Dog- State update on rules about primary care and ownership of your project dog.
Dog Agility- Jump heights will be lower for our county dog contest, however if a member plans to show at state fair agility, they can choose to do one of their three runs at the higher height to qualify.
Dairy Goats- New limitation on entries: No more than 3 entries per exhibitor in each class (note some classes have other limits). Added classes and age breakdown for show.
Breeding Goats- Added classes for further breakdown of ages and types. Best Goat Herd class adjustment: Must include 3 goats owned by the exhibitor, with at least 1 of the goats being an offspring bred, kidded, and owned by the exhibitor.
Breeding Goats and Market goats: Muzzles are allowed if the animal can drink. Breeding and Market goats may be shown with or without horns, but recommended tipped or taped for safety.
Market and Breeding Goats: A junior doe under 12 months may also be shown as a market goat.
Utility Goats- Obstacle Course- no more than 3 entries per exhibitor
Poultry: Market Chickens and Turkeys have “recommended” weights instead of required weights.
Rabbits- Two day show this year, so animals will need to say overnight. Members must handle their own animals. Entries adjusted to 10 market rabbits allowed (2 entries per class). Fur classes adjusted.
Cavy- Silkie, White Crested added as classes to fair.
Swine- Swine sponsorship program and classes added.
If you have any questions or need help clarifying something, feel free to contact Brenda or the superintendents.

DOG PROJECT
HUGE Dog Show at the Fairgrounds
Flatirons Kennel Club is a longtime local sponsor of our 4-H Dog Project, and they are hosting a very large AKC dog show at the Fairgrounds the weekend of June 6-7-8 with hundreds of dogs competing in Breed Conformation, Obedience and Rally. This is a wonderful opportunity to see a variety of dog breeds showing and performing in the rings with juniors and other handlers. Whether your favorite breed is a Labrador Retriever or a Xoloitzcuintli, you will see them all at this show throughout the weekend. Also, there are several vendors set up at this show so this is a great time to purchase show collars, leads, or other equipment you may need for our 4-H shows.
Leave your own pup at home and stop by this free event and watch all the dogs strutting their best for the judges!
Upcoming Fun Matches
Fun Matches are mini dog shows with rings and judges and a more casual experience than the County or State 4-H Dog Contests. June is a busy month for 4-H dog Fun Matches as everyone gets in more ring practice before Fair! Larimer County is hosting a really great Fun Match on Saturday, June 14, at The Ranch at the Fairgrounds in Loveland, and our Boulder County Fun Match will be held on Saturday, June 28th. Pre-registration is encouraged, and the flyers are attached to this newsletter.
If you are enrolled in the Dog Project, you are strongly encouraged to attend one or more Fun Matches before County Fair! These are really good practice opportunities … plus there are ribbons and prizes!
