Reflecting the desires of most Romans, Caesar's main goal was to enlarge the Roman Empire. This goal is known as "Imperialism."
More real estate means more resources, more power, and a larger tax base.
Of course, this usually means either the destruction or occupation of existing nations.
Many of histories greatest military leaders were similarly driven: Alexander, Charlemagne, Elizabeth, Napoleon, Andrew Jackson, Wilson, Hitler, Trump (?)
