Julio J. Guzman is currently an assistant professor and program director of the Tech MBA at the Faculty of Economics and Business, UNAB. He has a Ph.D. in Economics from the University of Chicago, and a M.A. and B.A. in Economics from the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile. His main fields of research are Applied Microeconometrics, Welfare and Development, focusing on poverty and social policies. His work includes research on social protection systems during recessions, the effects of child care subsidies on maternal employment and the effects of pre-labor market skills on income inequality. Between 2009 and 2020 he worked as an assistant professor and associate teaching professor at the School of Government, UAI, where he dictated courses such as Microeconomics, Econometrics, Microeconomic Theory, and Cost-Benefit Analysis. Between 2000 and 2003, he worked as an economic advisor at Budget Office, Ministry of Finance, Chile. Between 1997 and 2000, he worked as a researcher on poverty and social policies for a consulting firm (Focus). He has also served as a visiting researcher at the UNDP and The World Bank and as a short-term consultant at the IDB and ILO.
