We started this project offering onsite timber milling. I recall reading on forestry forums all the reasons why it could not possibly work. We already had a mill so I though we had little to loose and had a crack. It has built slowly and steadily and we have grown along with our knowledge, capacity and expertise.
We have milled throughout Victoria from Mildura to Bruthen. Its our first love in timber and we still enjoy the adventure and seeing new places and faces.
We come to you or where your log is, charge and hourly rate and leave you with timber and firewood. We are mostly happy for you to assist, You will have fun, perhaps learn about timber and milling, and save a bob in the process.
Is my log a good milling candidate?
We like them long, fat and straight and without knots, decay nor metal. For natives, if they are wider than 500 at the thin end they are usually worth it. If they are less than 300 then probably not. if they are in between it will depend on the species and the quality of the log.
We normally don't drive around looking at logs and seem to be able to provide a good estimate of time (and cost) over the phone with some pics and discussion about the timber you need. We might also ask about the species, your building project, access to the log, and any equipment you might have to move the logs.
