Julianne Warkentin is a creative Canadian composer, piano and theory teacher, festival adjudicator, accompanist, performer and presenter.
Julianne grew up in the small town of Newton, Manitoba and had her first piano lesson when she was six years old. Along with her ARCT in piano performance from Toronto’s Royal conservatory of music, her published compositions have been performed in examinations and festivals across Canada.
She began her private music studio in her 20s and enjoyed teaching for most of her life in Portage la Prairie and later in Winnipeg. She also has been active in accompanying soloists, instrumentalists and performing for functions such as weddings and musicals. For several summers, she was the piano accompanist for the Manitoba Opera charity tour.
As a child, Julianne began composing for special occasions and for self-expression. She believes that music is the universal language of the heart and a form of healing.
She began to submit her works for publication in graded conservatory books in her 30s and her career blossomed from there with her own collections.
She is inspired by the beauty of nature, family, students, animals, pets and anything that makes a visual or emotional impact on her. She has also composed specifically for her wonderful students in mind.
She has enjoyed her many years of teaching piano and inspiring students to perform, compose and simply fall in love with music. She has always attempted to avoid a cookie-cutter approach to teaching, but instead individualizes lessons to the uniqueness of the student.
Julianne‘s piano collections for beginners often have lyrics to assist with rhythm and evoke a student’s imagination.
One of her greatest pleasures as a composer is to connect with teachers and students who are playing her compositions.
Julianne resides with her husband and pets in Winnipeg, Manitoba. In her leisure time she enjoys cooking, sketching, reading, nature walks, coffee with friends and spending time with her family.
